I'm sure this is fine for some people, but I can't imagine that it's a suitable solution for all wheelchair users, particularly because many of us use mobility aids and wheelchairs not because we mechanically cannot stand, but because standing causes problems for us and worsens our symptoms. The mobility aids available and accessible, the better, but I kinda wish we would put the effort and funds into just making things accessible (housing, workplaces, public transport, hospitals, everything) instead of creating a wheelchair many people couldn't use anyway to make reaching things easier. Mobility aids don't need to be redesigned to give us confidence and bring us closer to what pre-disabled people think of as normal. We need to be able to go about our lives in our chairs or with our other mobility aids without finding obstacles that only exist because things were designed in a way that excludes us. This means having disabled people employed in town planning and construction.

A telecoping, stand up wheel chair would have given my Father a whole new outlook on his existence. Being confined to a chair really hit him hard. Something like this is a god send

While there are some comments about it only being useful for a handful my 2 cents is from today’s Stand point atleast a handful will be better off. And secondly this is a starting point to improvise and make it applicable / relevant to more and more and more … so let’s support and appreciate and encourage more folks to build something better and make more lives comfortable…if we can’t do that , atleast spread the word so more people know and a few more benefit !!!

Affordable healthcare tech is so important. This could make a real difference in developing countries where resources are limited. It's great to see medical companies focusing on independence and empowerment, not just treating symptoms. This is a perfect example of how good design can change lives. It's not just about looks, it's about function and freedom.
