🌏 The Asia-Pacific region has emerged as a focal point for cybercrime, witnessing the highest number of global cyber incidents in 2023. Notably, women-owned micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) bear a disproportionate impact. In light of International Women’s Month, we take a look at how The Asia Foundation's APAC Cybersecurity Fund initiative, in partnership with CyberPeace Institute and Global Cyber Alliance supported by Google.org highlights the need to elevate cybersecurity awareness, training, and proactive measures for women-owned businesses. Cyber Ireland welcomes the Governments strong support for cyber security in #Budget2024. The significant investment in cyber security, defence and industry supports will contribute to the growth of Ireland’s cyber security sector and our national cyber resilience. The importance of digital technologies and cyber security for Ireland’s citizens and economy was highlighted by Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe in the Dáil on October 10th. This includes a €10.7 million investment in the National Cyber Security Centre, Ireland (NCSC-IE) in 2024. Eoin Byrne, Manager at Cyber Ireland, said “We are pleased to see the continued investment in Ireland’s National Cyber Security Centre in Budget 2024, as well as the supports for the Defence Forces and industry. AUSTRALIAN CYBER INCIDENT RESPONSES DROP BY HALF Official Australian data for 2022-23 shows that its main #cyber agency responded to only half the number of incidents that it responded to in 2019-20. Incidents of national significance also dropped by half. This occurred at a time when spending increased by around 80%. What do we make of this? There may be good explanations. Congratulations to Cyber Ireland on launching their newest South East Chapter. Brendan Burke and Mark Dunphy from StateStreet, as well as Stryve's own Paul Delahunty, set up this new chapter hoping to help the region in need of support with a large university and plenty of local industry. They are currently finalising the aims of the chapter. Cyber Ireland is the national cyber security cluster organisation that brings together Industry, Academia and Government to represent the needs of the Cyber Security Ecosystem in Ireland. They aim to enhance the Innovation, Growth and Competitiveness of the companies and organisations which are part of each cluster. To cater for regional interests and needs, they encourage the setting up of regional chapters like the one in the South East. The aim is to provide a regional forum for the cyber security community to come together and link with Cyber Ireland’s national activities which include: ✅regular meetings on topics of interest; ✅ identifying regional challenges; ✅ coordinating the key stakeholders across industry, academia and government; ✅ feeding into Cyber Ireland on a national level. #Cyberireland #nationalcybersecurity #cybersecurityecosystem

I’m excited to be speaking at the Australian Cyber Conference #CyberCon2023 in Melbourne, organized by Australian Information Security Association (AISA), joining renowned leaders across the global #cybersecurity landscape. Melbourne and it’s broader #cyber ecosystem will be a key focus during our visit to #Australia with a cohort of 14 UK businesses and innovators as part of Innovate UK's cyber security Global Business Innovation Programme #GBIP. We’ll be engaging with Australian stakeholders across industry, government, and local cyber communities with opportunities to learn about regional priorities, develop business insights, make new contacts and create partnerships to advance project ideas and innovations.     In a world of ever-increasing digital connectivity, the way that cyber security has been chasing flaws and vulnerabilities in products, services and systems has become unsustainable. We need strong technology foundations that can protect software vulnerabilities from exploitation by design. Governments have an important role to play in this transition and I’ll be telling a story about how the UK is leading a step-change through Digital Security by Design (DSbD) #DSbD for a more secure, safer and resilient digital future.
