Interesting session the other day with our new Head of People & Culture board area and member of the SAP Executive board, Gina Vargiu-Breuer. Apart from getting to know her and her background (Italian roots, pshychologist 🥰, growing up in a restaurant 🫶🏻🍝, likes cooking, fine dinning, Italian fashion and interior design 👔, her grandfather made it to 💯) two things that resonated with me that she mentioned were:  1️⃣ You have to transform yourself before transforming the company 2️⃣ She wants to eliminate the word customer when we talk about People and Culture  ➡️ she doesn't see the business as a costumer - our service is a part of SAP and the business. We are not a serving organization; we are not receiving and executing but setting the pace, being tough leaders, driving the change. Last Friday I had the privilege of attending Cultures@SAP - a great event that brought together SAP employees from all over the world and their families. The atmosphere was filled with vibrant energy, accompanied by the rhythms of music and the joyous spectacle of dancing. The air was infused with the aroma of delicious food, showcasing diverse culinary delights and treasured family recipes. The event prooved once more that in today's interconnected world, embracing diversity has become more than just a buzzword. It is a fundamental aspect of creating a thriving and successful company culture. As the global marketplace continues to evolve, businesses must recognize and celebrate the incredible value that diverse employees bring to the table. #Diversity goes far beyond just checking boxes on a list. It was a wonderful week with SAP Labs Vancouver Executive Leadership team and the entire SAP Labs Canada team for bringing back our 🥞 pancake breakfast tradition. 🥞 Having the chance to organize this event was a delightful experience, and I got three key takeaways for fostering meaningful and relaxing touchpoints in our hybrid work setup: ✨ Simplicity is Key Sometimes, building a comfortable environment for people to meet, share and have delicious food together is more important than creating complicated activities for people to participate. Keep it simple to promote relaxation and bonding among the company. 🎯 Approachable leadership Imagine leaders flipping pancakes for you—it's that easy to connect with SAP leadership. Having leaders to be physically or virtually present in the workplace. Their visibility could make huge impact on employees' commitment to engagement and accessibility too! 🥞 Classic touchpoints matter Don't underestimate the power of cherished, traditional events. 📢 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱! Do you feel the same? While working with SAP in the vibrant Asia Pacific and Japan region, I personally experienced the incredible impact of #recognition in the corporate world. I clearly remember the sense of pride and joy I felt with each acknowledgment of my efforts, whether it was for a major project success or a small win. 🌏😊 I find it really interesting to see how cultural differences play into the way we recognize achievements. In some places, getting a public shout-out is a big deal and a huge source of pride. In other cultures, a quiet, personal thank you means a lot more.  ☝️One aspect that stands out for me is the power of a simple #gratitude email in every culture. These small gestures of appreciation are powerful morale boosters, reminding us that our contributions are valued and impactful.  👉Another thing I’ve noticed is that as people move up the corporate ladder, acknowledgements of success become extremely rare, and a person might get a thank you email every now and then. It’s a bit sad, isn’t it? No matter how high up you are, it’s always nice to hear that you’re on the right track and making a difference. We all work to make sure our teams feel seen and appreciated, and this should include everyone, from the newest intern to the top boss. The power of recognition is as strong as honest feedback, which helps us to grow. We need to learn to embrace both recognition and performance feedback, whether it is excellent, mediocre, or poor, with an open mind! How to create a sense of #belonging in the corporate world? You dance, sing and laugh together! ✨ Who makes a positive company culture come alive? Engaged employees with "crazy" and fun ideas, who have the energy and talent to inspire their colleagues to participate and join the movement. ✨ Need an example? 8 years ago, Reyhan Semling had the idea to start #LunchBeat, dancing during lunch break, at #SAP. 8 years later, the movement has grown and Reyhan is still spreading joy and strengthening the corporate culture at SAP. ✨ Lucky for me, I got invited to join the 8th anniversity this year. I love dancing and enjoyed one hour of non-stop jumping around to great music in the parking garage in Walldorf. Thanks for the invitation, dear Reyhan! ✨ Note: These kind of activities cannot be forced upon the organization from the top, but colleagues with ideas need #support such as #time, #budget and #appreciation to get started and keep on going. ✨ Is it worth it?
