During recent periods of unusually warm water in the Gulf of Alaska, young Pacific cod in near shore safe havens did not experience the protective effects those areas typically provide, a new Oregon State University study found. “These coastal habitats aren’t supporting fish in the same way that they used to as a result of marine heat waves,” said lead author Hillary Thalmann, a graduate student in OSU’s Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Sciences. #BelieveIt #Research #Alaska #Wildlife #MarineLife

If you've ever wondered how you can easily access California commercial fisheries data, you're in luck, as the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Marine Fisheries Data Explorer (MFDE) has just been updated through 2023! The MFDE is a dynamic, web-based tool that compiles non-confidential fisheries data in a variety of reports, visuals, and annual summaries - Landings by Block is a personal favorite, and there are plenty of other readily prepared reports to explore. Filter reports by date ranges, species, port of landing, or create personalized custom queries to answer more specific fisheries data related investigations - see the user guide for further instructions. #fisheries #commercialfishing #fisheriesmanagement #fishdata
