That's it. I'm done. I've tried and tried, to no avail. At some point, a man comes to understand that his efforts are in vain, and I've reached that point. I'll keep searching for development jobs until the end of April. If I don't have at least an offer by then, I'm leaving the tech industry. That's hard for me to say. It almost brings me to tears. I've been writing code for over 30 years. I started when I was 8, and started trying to make it a career when I was 15. It's one of my few passions, and the one that has stuck with me the longest, through all the hardest times and lowest points of my life. The simple fact is that, for many reasons, I'm almost unhireable. I have neither the charisma nor the connections to really make consulting a viable option. That doesn't leave me with a lot of options, and the situation is such that I truly don't see any future for me in this industry. I'll still work on solo projects, of course. As I said, it's a passion for me. And some of those projects I would like to make commercial. Maybe one day that'll happen, and you'll all get to see Pixeme, Liblio, Clave, Lapsi, and the many other ideas that my mind concocts even when I tell it I have enough to do already. I'd also like to contribute more to open source software, assuming I can find projects that fit both my skill set and moral compass. Looking for work in the tech field could be daunting. Especially if you have minimal experience. What can you do to continue to sharpen both your technical and people’s skills. Here is a list of things that I did which I found to be helpful and productive. 1-Projects: There are countless ideas for projects online you could do and maybe even tweak them a bit to showcase your skills. What’s even better is coming up with an idea of an app that can assist a small business. 2-Networking: I don’t think I have ever met a community as helpful as Software Engineers. Try to connect on LinkedIn or other community platforms and ask questions about the industry, what’s hot and what skills to focus on, etc. 3-Freelance work: When I started out as a freelance Web Developer, I had no idea I would learn as much as I did, and you can even make some money. And this would be an experience you can add to your resume.  So, if you feel discouraged, keep busy and continue to learn. Eventually, a door of opportunity will open up. All the best! Friends, colleagues, denizens of LinkedIn, I need your help. I have been on this job seeking journey for a while now, and I’m not having much luck. Applying via job boards is simply not working. So this is me humbly asking, again, if any of you might know anyone who needs a web developer. Full-time, part-time, contract, freelance, whatever. This journey has been eye opening for me. And very humbling. Where once I thought I had a fairly good grasp of what it takes to be a developer, I’m now having to re-examine everything I know. I’m refreshing my skills, learning new ones, taking online courses, revising my resume, updating my profile, etc. I need to work more on my hard skills. I know that. Tech assessments are not my strong suit. I never tested well in school either. I want to thank everyone who has offered help so far, and the few companies that have considered me a possible candidate - Vivid Seats, Trala, PPL, CityBase. Even though I didn’t get those jobs, I learned more about myself through your willingness to talk with me. I wish you all the best on your search.
