Opta Sports Data Ltd reunion 9 years after the business was sold to Perform Group. Great memories.
ladies and gentlemen I would like to contact you today as a enthusiast of computer programming and innovation in artificial intelligence (AI). I am convinced that AI has the potential to revolutionize many fields, including football.I developed a concept for an innovative computer system that could transform the way football is played, coached and analyzed. This system would address currently unmet needs and provide significant benefits to players, coaches and clubs. I have already carried out significant work on this project, in particular the drafting of specifications, the identification of needs and the development of a software architecture. However, fully implementing the system requires hardware resources and technical expertise that I do not possess as an individual. This is why I invite you to collaborate on this exciting project. Your company, with its IT expertise and commitment to innovation, would be an ideal partner in bringing this vision to life.I am convinced that this system has considerable commercial potential and could have a major impact on the football industry. I am excited to discuss this proposal in more detail and present my concept to you in more depth. Thank you Nathan Mboyo
Unfortunately, I never worked for Opta Sports Data Ltd. However, I once was interviewed by Richard Ewing for a role. I think it was around 2005 or 2006 when I contacted him first and offered my services in the local market. It didn't work out in the end, but I don't hold any grudges. Opta was a revelation when I heard about it. Being a stats nerd, who maniacally (and manually) collected data from Liverpool games (and later launched a website dedicated to LFC stats, but not THAT website), I was stunned when I realised there was a team doing the same on a scale of the whole planet. Thank you for opening my eyes and helping me to understand my passions better. Opta has been my inspiration for years.
The dream team!

10moI can clearly remember working for Opta way back in early 1998 at the office in Artillery Row. Pausing VHS tapes of Premier League matches in order to pencil in a stat and then (nine hours later) enjoying a well-deserved pint at The Albert. Video analysis in football has thankfully moved on from those pioneering early days.
