June 2024 is Pride Month. Widely a time for celebration and visibility, the reality for many LGBTQ+ employees in the workplace often falls short. Whilst lots of workplaces are taking the initiative and offer a welcoming and inclusive workplace, many still have work to do when it comes to offering a safe space for people to be themselves. For some LGBTQ+ people, the workplace may be the only safe place for them if their cultural background or family are not accepting of their sexuality. This is just one good reason for workplaces to be open and inclusive. If you need another reason, it would be prudent to remember that any form of discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community is protected under the Equality Act 2010, which prohibits and protects prejudice against the nine protected characteristics across the UK. With around 1.7 million LGBTQ+ employees working in the UK, it is important for organisations to make sure they include their colleagues from the LGBTQ+ community and confront any form of discrimination. One way of doing this is to collect organisational diversity data, to gain an understanding of which employees resonate with the LGBTQ+ community, and how they may be experiencing their workplace. This article offers some practical ways to create and maintain an inclusive workplace culture. Are you ready for Pride Month? https://buff.ly/4c45P8c #pridemonth #inclusivity #workplaceculture

Passionate about driving positive, long-lasting changes that benefit all through a lens of I&D, Psychological Safety & New Work.
Thank you for letting me be part of the UK based panel discussion on "LGBTQ+ Inclusion in the Heat Network Industry" - The Diverse Heat Network 🎉 ❤️ LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace remains a crucial topic & we need to ensure it remains (or starts to be...) on the agenda across all different industries! 💪🏻🏳️🌈 Why?! - Simple: - Global Mobility: There are still over 60 countries where I, a lesbian woman, am illegal. Many more organisations need to establish a coherent framework to ensure LGBTQ+ staff are fully supported when travelling or relocating - from the very beginning. 🛫 🗺 - Talent Attraction & Retention: The (remaining) lack of visible role models/change makers results in missing out on talent > "If I can see it, I can be it!" While there has been A LOT of progress in some key industries, many smaller, more niche industries are still lacking role models, strategies & measurable action plans (not just LGBTQ+ of course)! 👀☝🏻 - Employer Branding & Reputation: This area is still heavily under-utilised by so many companies. The positive impact on potential talent, clients, partners & consumers has been proven so many times, through so many ways - & yet, there is still a lack of focus & priority when it comes to these areas! Other key areas - of course - are Social Responsibility (ESG), Innovation, Compliance, etc. My experiences have shown me over & over again that for lasting, long-term changes & impact, there needs to be a golden, strategic thread, which connects them all. Unfortunately, many organisations are still missing these fantastic opportunities to make their company a more inclusive (,productive, & profitable) place for all. & with that - be more innovative & efficient to help make the world a better place (quicker!😉)! OF COURSE, there is a lot of fantastic work happening across various industries & areas, BUT I am someone who prefers to focus on what still needs to change & improve for all!😎💪🏻❤️ So let's continue the talk on LGBTQ+ inclusion wherever and whenever we can! 👍
🌈 Pride Month may be over, but the conversation around LGBTQ+ inclusion shouldn't have to end. I'm excited to share a blog post I've written about the useful insights and key takeaways from a recent webinar I chaired, on behalf of The Diverse Heat Network. Special thanks also go to Tala Baadarani for her amazing support in organizing the event. 👉 Read the full blog post below to learn about: - Why LGBTQ+ inclusion is still relevant in our industry - Common experiences of LGBTQ+ employees in the workplace - Practical steps we can all take to be better allies 🏳️🌈 Whether you're a decision-maker or just starting out in your career, every effort counts. Kudos to our LinkedIn for Nonprofits Team for sharing some simple, actionable tips to help nonprofit managers and team members support their LGBTQ+ colleagues and build more inclusive cultures. 42% of LGBTQ+ employees report having experienced non-inclusive behaviors at work — and one-third are actively looking to move to a more LGBTQ+ inclusive employer. Organizations can actively nurture inclusivity through actions like creating employee resource groups (ERGs), clearly communicating anti-discrimination policies, and exploring ways to make workforce benefits more inclusive of LGBTQ+ employees and their families.
