It's National Careers Week! 💡 At Findel we’re passionate about supporting young people develop awareness and excitement about their future, which is why we have ensured that the Findel Foundation is perfectly aligned to the Gatsby Benchmarks for career guidance. Last week marked we supported two high schools, seamlessly integrating activities in line with Gatsby Benchmark 5 and Benchmark 6: 👥 Encounters with employers & employees 🏢 Experiences of workplaces Hosting workplace safaris is what we love to do! We invited a group of 15 students from Great Academies Education Trust into our HQ in Hyde to hear all about careers and pathways in Buying, Merchandising, Brand Marketing and HR. They also heard from one of our apprentices to get a feel for what it’s like to work and learn on the job. And we didn’t stop there… On Wednesday, a team of 11 Findel colleagues delivered the first ‘Findel Takeover’ event at Longdendale High School to the entire Year 9 cohort! Around 180 students eagerly embraced challenges throughout the day to deepen their understanding and present their learnings – a fantastic testament to their future potential! In a recent report published by the Careers and Enterprise Company they found:  ➡️ Young people’s career readiness improves as they progress through school, rising from 46% when they start secondary school in Year 7, to 77% in Year 13. ➡️ 86% of businesses say their work with schools leads to more young people wanting jobs in their sector. A positive summary of some really important work.

The last half of 2023 has seen one of the toughest hiring markets for junior developers in recent memory. Despite this, we want to celebrate some of CodeYourFuture’s biggest achievements and thank our community, partners and supporters. ✔️ With fewer entry-level roles available, we've adjusted our program to set up our trainees for success. We decided to delay the start of new classes in all regions to focus more on 1-to-1 time to help our current trainees polish their portfolios. ✔️ We announced Slack as our first partner for CYF+, our immersive engineering programme, which prepares people to deal with systems of a massive scale and high levels of complexity. Slack article https://lnkd.in/ePZP_U9f ✔️ We have been counted as a #digitalpublicgood for the second year running - alongside many fantastic #opensource projects in the United Nations-endorsed Digital Public Goods Alliance - More https://lnkd.in/ePgwHTYc ✔️ We launched our first job fair in #London hosted by our partner Capgemini to connect our grads with industry leaders. More https://lnkd.in/ettUCJzu ✔️ Our Digital Literacy Programme helped 104 people come through our 3-week course called Day-to-Day Digital Skills. With the funding from Santander, we enhanced our curriculum, trained more volunteers and built community partnerships. We also increased programme accessibility through multi-language delivery. Many people don't know that #CYF is the only tech training provider that offers this extra financial assistance with costs like childcare, laptops, transport and internet. We also provide lunch on class days. It's Time to Grow Our Own Many cities lack local talent to meet the demands of mid-level jobs and future occupations. They rely on importing college graduates from out of state or outsource internationally. This doesn't make any sense. Why would any major metropolitan city that has thousands of diploma-bearing students, not want to fill workforce needs with local talent? SparqU, Inc. addresses this problem by providing workforce training, entrepreneur camps, and youth programs targeting under-represented communities. We believe in growing our own, locally. Our goal is to recruit and cultivate non-degreed adults of color and underserved youth to acquire professionally recognized technical skills and higher-paying jobs. Our superpower is we inspire, innovate, and iterate the workforce development process. We have successfully broken down barriers to entry through partnerships with organizations like CrossPurpose, Arapahoe Community College, and Colorado Futuretek. Since 2016, we have trained over 500 individuals in workforce and entrepreneurship skills. We also walk the talk. We contracted 10 BIPOC businesses last year, and run our own internship program. 🌟 Celebrating Women's History Month at M-Tech: Spotlight on Venezia Leone!🌟 This March, as we celebrate Women's History Month at M-Tech, we're turning the spotlight on the amazing women who contribute their brilliance to our team. ✨ Today, let's get to know Venezia a little better through a quick Q&A: What's a significant project you've worked on at MTech that you are particularly proud of? Over the last year we have been working on replacing our phone system, which represents the majority of our lead generation. After evaluating potential replacements, defining requirements and roadmaps, and helping to unblock the team as they built the replacements, I am so proud to say that we launched the new phone system! This will save the business thousands of dollars a month and ensure M-Tech has full ownership over the technology. How do you maintain a healthy work/life balance in the fast-paced tech industry? -I take time off when I want to without feeling any reservations. Work is important but so is life.  -I prioritize exercise multiple times a week wherever it fits in my schedule - sometimes I workout at 7AM and sometimes I work out at 8PM. - I make sure I always have snacks at my desk - a fed Venezia is a happy Venezia What is a pivotal moment or experience in your career that shaped who you are today? At a career fair my senior year I discovered the fellowship program Venture for America, which is a program geared toward connecting recent grads to start up jobs in cities with emerging entrepreneurship ecosystems. Without Venture for America I would not have been exposed to starts ups or to Product Management, which are now two of my favorite things! Tell us something about yourself that would surprise people? My teammates would say this isn't surprising since I talk about it all the time, but I started CrossFit a year and a half ago and am currently participating in my first CrossFit Open, which is a global competition! It is so empowering to challenge myself and the community at my gym is so supportive and fun.
