5 Interesting Facts About Payroll!: 1 - The word payroll came into use around the 1750’s as a combination of the words Pay (a verb) and Roll (a noun) referring to a list of periodic payments made to employees as salary. 2 - The 1925 Contributory Pensions Act – set up a contributory State scheme for manual workers and others earning up to £250 a year. The pension was 50p a week from age 65. 3 - The word salary can be traced back to ancient Rome and the history of salt. Roman soldiers were historically paid in coin, but it is also said that they were paid in salt. Some even say the word salary is derived from the word salt, due to the salt allowances of soldiers. 4 - Albert Einstein is rumoured to have said “The hardest thing to understand in the world is income tax”. 5 - In 1966, The Beatles released the song Taxman to protest the 95% supertax they were paying – no wonder so many rich and famous people went to live abroad. https://lnkd.in/e5hwywvE

Waiting for my train at Foregate Street on Friday morning, the sun was slowly rising from behind Shrub Hill. The freezing temperatures overnight and clear sky on Friday morning made this an excellent shot across the frozen roof-tops of Worcester. It was a good moment to pause for reflection after a busy week full of good news. Friday was a really interesting day of contrasts. We had our first Central Route Senior Leadership Group meeting in central Birmingham. It was great to have many colleagues from many different departments together and spend some time with our Exec and hear their thoughts on what our challenges into CP7 look like. I feel the importance of leaders spending time together can be under-rated. Different opinions, views and challenges from across the industry make give you pause to think about how your own function impacts others. Returning home was challenging with large numbers of trains cancelled due to the ASLEF strike. The industry needs some way out of the industrial action to restore some confidence from the public at a time when revenue and ridership continues to recover. The long-hand of government needs to let the individual operators find a settlement, as they did pre-COVID, and work to restore confidence in the railway's ability to deliver day-in and day-out. #railwayoperations, #leadership

Payroll team members are so busy getting the payroll out each pay period that there is no time for office politics. This fact often dilutes the team's status and results. These days, with the importance of getting payroll right, the status of the payroll team must improve. "Remember that doing politics on your terms, with a clear-eyed view of how to be effective without selling your soul or sacrificing your values, will benefit you and those colleagues and stakeholders who are counting on you to do the best job you can." Niven Postma HBR Contributor. Reduce the time in data off system calculations and data entry to focus on supporting the business to get payroll right and promote the importance of the function. That is the way forward. #ThatsInzenius #Payroll (www.inzenius.com)

Oprah, Oprah, Oprah... the wisdom of Oprah will never cease to amaze me. 💜 💜 💜 As I was absorbing the insights from one of her interviews, it sparked a profound reflection on our roles as leaders and how we can foster an environment that encourages our team to engage in deep introspection. It’s crucial for them to really listen to their inner voices and understand what they truly want and desire in their career growth. Recently, I've embarked on a journey of mentorship with some of my employees, and I’ve realized how challenging it can be to create a space that allows us to truly understand what WE want... not what is expected of us by others. This experience has been enlightening, underscoring the importance of making time for genuine reflection and understanding. It’s about more than just guiding our team members along their career paths; it’s about helping them discover their authentic desires and aspirations, beyond external expectations. At IN-RGY Group, we’re dedicated to transforming the way people experience work. By integrating Oprah’s timeless wisdom into our leadership and mentorship practices, we’re creating a culture that prioritizes understanding, empathy, and personal growth. Let’s continue to inspire and be inspired, making space for what truly matters to each of us. #Leadership #Mentorship #INRGYCulture #CareerGrowth #Reflect #AuthenticSelf https://lnkd.in/gcs_8BRV
