As we head into COP28 this week, the mantra that is guiding my engagements is: it’s not too late. Many of us are inundated with facts and figures each day that tell us how our global climate goals are slipping almost out of reach. But there is still plenty we can do to progress towards the goals set out in the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise, reduce waste and preserve and protect nature. While we need collaboration from all sectors and industries, at Mastercard we know that in the private sector, we can play an important role in these efforts. We’re activating our vast global network to help consumers make more sustainable choices. We’re phasing out first-use, PVC plastic in our physical payment cards. And we’re restoring forests to mitigate climate change, support biodiversity, and support communities. At the heart of our environmental efforts is our commitment to putting people first. By supporting climate-vulnerable communities and involving local groups and individuals in climate action, we can make real progress toward a sustainable, inclusive future that doesn’t leave anyone behind. Currently, unfortunately, only 15 percent of the Sustainable Development Goals are on track to be achieved by 2030 - many have stalled or gone into reverse.   To achieve the SDGs, we therefore need to take more ambitious action. Rather than merely talking and preaching, I am actively taking concrete steps to create awareness and empower everyone to practice sustainability. I encourage individuals, SMEs, Businesses, and Stakeholders to track their baseline carbon footprint, making it easier for them to participate in environmentally responsible actions and responsible consumption. Why are businesses, SMEs, employees, stakeholders, and individuals not taking sustainability seriously and not actively tracking their carbon footprint to embrace sustainable practices, reduce consumption, and fulfill their corporate and social responsibilities to meet SDGs and contribute to Nation's Net Zero Target? 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐂𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐋𝐂𝐀): Evaluate the environmental impact of products from cradle to grave. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬: Measure greenhouse gas emissions across the supply chain. 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Identify and prioritize the most critical sustainability issues affecting your business.
