The CEO-to-worker pay gap went up in the last decade. And the gap is massive. Fast Company notes that a CEO at one of the top 350 U.S. firms earns 399 times what the typical worker earns. Experts told Fast Company such a massive disparity impacts workers' morale and creates "counterproductive work behaviors." They say it also creates retention problems. Frontline, low-wage workers Fast Company spoke to said the gap made them feel "replaceable." What can be done? One CEO of a mid-size digital marketing agency assessed his financial status then took a 25% pay cut to help offset costs of raising salaries. He said morale and productivity remained the same. But, at a minimum, it was the right thing to do.

These meadows are not just beautiful, but they also provide a home for diverse species and serve as a rich food source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. In my opinion, companies should take the wildflower meadow as a model and strive to create a similar environment within their organizations. By fostering diversity of opinions, encouraging open discussions, and breaking down hierarchies, companies can tap into the full potential of their employees and generate new perspectives and ideas that can drive innovation and growth. As we face the high need for innovation, digitalization and new work, it is more important than ever to question hierarchical organizational approaches.
