🥲 We love you too, New York. Thanks for fighting for your public libraries. The FY25 budget adopted today by the New York City Council includes full restoration of funding for NYC public libraries. We couldn’t have done it without all of you!

Sad to see that so many libraries across the US are being targeted for budget cuts, same old excuses that have been used for years. As the daughter of two librarians, I applaud the restoration of funds. Libraries are the bastion of learning and they're for EVERYONE regardless of walk of life. So many authors and famous people have credited libraries with giving them their start in meaningful careers. Libraries and bookstores are treasures not to be minimized or micromanaged. A city or town without a library is a desert in more ways than one.

NYPL served me well as a little girl. Inspired a love of reading and learning, free classes during the summer when I couldn’t afford camp. Was my only source of wifi and trusted way for me to get through my sophmore year of high school in the Bronx. Libraries need to be preserved for everyone, an invaluable public service.

I'm happy funding to NYC public libraries has been restored! When I came to America in the early 2000s, I didn't know how to read, write, or speak English. The public library in my neighborhood provided me with the tools to learn. The librarians were so kind to me and took the time to sit with me to read books until I learned to read on my own. I'm forever grateful. Libraries are an essential part of the community and need to be protected.

The public library is one of the only places where a person can exist without the need to pay. The library is where I went to after school (many many years ago). It was the place where I did every research project, paper, and science fair experiment, and where I developed my love for reading. I didn't grow up in NY, but all libraries hold a special place in my heart. Glad to know it's safe from budget cuts!

I'm not a NYer anymore but the library saved me when I lived there for a short period of time. I got to read Walt Whitman for the first time, studied English, learned everything I could about Orcas. I'm so glad it's going to be fine ❤️

Thank You Lord. My library is my happy place. A library is an important part of our lives. I will go to my library tomorrow, to celebrate.
