Every risk IN your business is a risk TO your business. Every decision in your business IS a business decision. It may be about technology or about who supplies your paper clips but they have many common elements with every other business decision, chiefly; costs and benefits. Risk is typically both; a reduction in risk in one area is a benefit, a new risk in another area is a cost. Appointing an expert technologist (a phrase fraught with misunderstandings, errors, ommissions, and sometimes outright frauds, not to ignore a massive and growing global supply shortage) does not relieve the business managers of their responsibilities to make sound informed business decisions. If they become convinced that cybersecurity decisions are not business decisions they can only ever approach this objective by accident (which is not a recognized business management methodology).
