The Cedars-Sinai Accelerator programme has been game-changing for 52North - creators of Neutrocheck® on so many levels. One really exciting development is our new collaboration with the state-of-the-art Tatonetti Lab. Prof Nicholas Tatonetti is Vice Chair of Operations in the Department of Computational Biomedicine and Associate Director of Computational Oncology in the Cancer Center at Cedars-Sinai . With buy-in from oncologists across Cedars-Sinai, and amazingly rich patient-level data from the hospital, we are kicking off a collaboration to develop and validate cutting-edge risk prediction models for cancer patients at risk of treatment-related complications, such as neutropenic sepsis. 👀 Watch this space!!! And we strongly encourage any innovators looking for an accelerator program to take them to the next level, to apply for next year’s cohort. 🛡️ Unraveling the Guardians of Genetic Secrets: The power of Extracellular Vesicles in miRNA protection The primary focus of Theramir Ltd’s project ‘’CompamiR’’ is the development of a novel diagnostic tool that promises to redefine early breast cancer detection. Our dedicated team is working towards harnessing the power of miRNA in blood, unlocking a new frontier in precision medicine🔍. MiRNAs hold great promise as biomarkers especially due to their remarkable stability in blood. But what is the secret of their stability?🤔 Circulating miRNAs are commonly released from cells within Extracellular vesicles|Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) are derived from cells and play a vital role in facilitating cell-to-cell communication both locally and distantly. They have the potential to transfer various cargoes – including miRNAs– between cells. By encapsulating miRNAs within their lipid bilayers, EVs become guardians, safeguarding the integrity of these messengers throughout their journey. #CompamiR is funded by Ίδρυμα Έρευνας και Καινοτομίας/Research and Innovation Foundation under the category Young Researcher Culture Award (Coordinator: Dr Marianna Prokopi-Demetriades) in the field of Life Sciences. #ExtracellularVesicles #CellCommunication #miRNA #PrecisionMedicine #miRNA #Liquidbiopsy #innovation #miRNA #research #startup

SOPHiA GENETICS’ VP, Multimodal R&D, Thierry Colin, will share his team's innovative work on multimodal research at ESTIA-Recherche tomorrow in Amphi 21 at ESTIA 2 campus, ESTIA Institute of technology. When a patient is diagnosed with cancer, they undergo numerous medical examinations (biopsy, imaging, biological, genomic analyses) so that doctors can propose a treatment plan. The decision regarding the type of treatment offered is made during a multidisciplinary consultation meeting (MCM) based on recommendations from various health agencies and/or professional societies. 💡 The results of the various medical examinations form a dataset whose richness is only partially exploited. In his presentation, Thierry will show how these data can be used to develop algorithms for personalized prediction of treatment response, focusing on localized kidney cancer and metastatic lung cancer. The talk will go beyond sharing our breakthroughs, and we look forward to sparking conversations. Thierry is eager to dive into discussions with ESTIA students, contributing to SOPHiA GENETICS's mission to nurture the next generation of talent right here in our local communities. #BasqueCountry #DataDrivenMedicine #FutureOfHealthcare

Congratulations to Dr Megan Mitchell Dr Olivier Loudig from the Center for Discovery and Innovation New Jersey, and to their colleagues, for the recent publication Exhaled breath condensate contains extracellular vesicles (EVs) that carry miRNA cargos of lung tissue origin that can be selectively purified and analyzed. This work presents an innovative approach for isolating EVs from exhaled aerosolized droplets and analyzing their content. By capturing the EVs, the scientists could intercept the "instant bio-messages" that cells use to communicate with one another in the lungs. They used several methods to assess the captured EVs, among them ONI's #EVProfiler kit, depicted in the attached image. This enabled them to not only identify the cells that generated the EVs, but also to carefully characterize the RNA molecules inside the EVs, and study them as diagnostic markers for various diseases, among them lung cancer. Read the full paper here: https://hubs.li/Q02vjXhf0 This paper is a fine example for the potential that EVs hold for the future of biomedical research. There is no doubt that EVs will play a major role in diagnostics and therapeutics, and we are very excited to see what new technologies are coming next. ONI scientists will attend #ISEV2024, where they will present our latest development in EV research, #EVProfiler2 with #AutoEV, as well as #AploFlow, our next generation end-to-end solution for EV capture, analysis and reporting. #Nanoimager #SuperResolution #microscopy #research #ExtraCellularVesicles #Biology #Biophysics #SingleMolecule #SMLM #dSTORM #LifeSciences #diagnostics

Telomeres are the protective nucleoprotein structures at the end of linear eukaryotic chromosomes. Telomeres’ repetitive nature and length have traditionally challenged the precise assessment of the composition and length of individual human telomeres. Here, we present Telo-seq to resolve bulk, chromosome arm-specific and allele-specific human telomere lengths using Oxford Nanopore Technologies’ native long-read sequencing. Telo-seq resolves telomere shortening in five population doubling increments and reveals intrasample, chromosome arm-specific, allele-specific telomere length heterogeneity. Telo-seq can reliably discriminate between telomerase- and ALT-positive cancer cell lines. Thus, Telo-seq is a novel tool to study telomere biology during development, ageing, and cancer at unprecedented resolution.
