Did you know 90% of Fortune 500 companies have Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), yet only approx. 5% of companies compensate for their ERG Leads? I am happy to report that Samsara is part of that 5% that recognizes ERG Leads by providing a spot bonus for all of the work we do on top of our day jobs to provide a diverse and inclusive environment for all. How cool is that? In a time where DE&I efforts are gaining less traction at companies, I am grateful to see and be part of this recognition/continued investment. A huge shout-out to all of our ERG leads/committee members for their amazing work building a more inclusive & diverse workplace for all. Getting hired is one thing, having a place where you belong/feel included is what will make you stay. A huge shout-out to Adebola Morton, Nikki Klepper, Kirsten Mitchell and Lynita Taylor, EdD, MBA for leading the way!

𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐌𝐲 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 You’re working hard for that first promotion. There’s one opportunity few see as promising. It was my first promotion after eight years on the job. I learned and developed a lot, but it wasn’t enough to get rewarded. I HAD TO MOVE FORWARD. Then came an unexpected opportunity: Product Manager in a Spanish-speaking country. I accepted and moved my family to Mexico. “𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐜𝐨 in the 90s?” everyone asked. “𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫?” I didn’t speak Spanish. I had only visited Mexico briefly. I was among the first from HQ to make such a move. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞. From there, my career flourished. Embracing unexpected opportunities is invaluable. Succeeding in them invites even bigger opportunities. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬—those you master or those you get up from and try again. From clerk to Region and Country Head, reporting to the Board, my journey gave me priceless experiences. This was the foundation for my next challenge: 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. Again, the naysayers questioned me. Starting a consulting business in a crowded market? Focusing on a consolidating industry? That was ten years ago. Today, with a solid business, I no longer hear the doubts. Instead, I receive recognition for the exceptional service we provide. We help transforming lives—those of our clients, candidates, and senior executives who join our platform. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝: 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. GCAE-SE- Business Development in Midroc Investment Group glbd@midrocinvestmentgroup.com AND Advocacy Sub Board in Addis Ababa Chamber (AACCSA) +2519 11656512 +251934422672 malericontact@gmail.com
AACCSA Advocacy Wing Access yo finance to business (Manufacturing, Construction, Import and Export etc Thanks all !!!!! Around 53% of financial access is given to the private sector, especially in 2023. On average, there has been a 27% increase in loans over the last three years. Among the estimated 120 million people, an average of 2 million private sector entities took out loans, accounting for approximately 1.6%. A large number of SMEs receive credit from Microfinance Institutions, but only have access to 7% of the total financial access. The share of public bank loans was 77% ten years ago, but now it has decreased to 48.5%, with private bank loans increasing from 23% to 53.5%. Generally, there is an increase in the demand for loans, however, banks face challenges related to leverage and deposit growth. Simultaneously, deposit growth is currently at 25% in private banks, public deposits have increased by 27%, while deposit growth in the private sector stands at 22% and public bank deposit rate is 25% in 2023. Liquidity is a problem. Personally, I also need access to finance but have no collateral. Do any of you have collateral? However, the bank requires collateral, which is also a problem. Oh, I have not repaid the loan I took for unplanned expenses from my wife. Do you have similar scenarios? Banks in Ethiopia also face problems with defaulted or expired loans and full default. Both banks and the private sector need to work on appraisals for repayment, and banks should reduce collateral requirements. Inflation also plays a role in the problem of financial access in the background. These are the notes I took from the panel discussion with experts from the National Bank, Development Bank, Private Banks, and international Banking service organizations today at the Interluxury Hotel, Addis Ababa. On a personal note, the implementation of the Capital Market will solve most issues. Until then, I hope that the manufacturing, construction, import-export, and agricultural sectors can overcome these financial access challenges. Oh, and myself too.

"You should complete your work without a babysitter" "Take pride in your work" "Quiet quitting would be an embarrassment" I always find it interesting when these points are regurgitated because I always like to take a second and ask 'why?' 'You should complete your work without a babysitter' Why is there a babysitter at all? Is it because the employee doesn't know how to do their assigned task and needs retraining? Do they not understand the value of their work or how it relates to the organization? Instead of seeing this as a failure on the employee's part maybe we can examine the environment they are in and why they would respond in this way? Maybe their company is perfect in every way. Great! Then there should be a system put in place to make sure the standards are understood and enforced instead of allowing people to limp along or impact the productivity of others. Not unlike a baby that needs sitting. 'Take pride in your work' Why? What does pride or intrinsic motivation do to materially affect performance? If we're operating under the assumption that a light bulb assembled by someone who takes pride in their work shines brighter than the alternative, what is being done to encourage this? How does a company measure who takes pride in their work and who doesn't? Once a pride deficit is identified, what is a company doing to address it? How are the people who DO take pride in their work being celebrated, if at all? So much of this is based on the culture of a company and how it interacts with its employees. Also, my new band name is Pride Deficit, do not steal. 'Quiet quitting would be an embarrassment to a Scandinavian' If this is true, I have never been more thankful to not be Scandinavian. I have yet to meet a Quiet Quitter who was not previously an actively engaged, enthusiastic employee. Something within their work changed that. It could be inept management, lack of growth opportunities, ineffective communication, or outright hostility. Rather than shame them for this response, I think it would be more effective to explore what got someone to that point and address it so that it doesn't spread like pink eye at a daycare. But that's just me though. It's almost as if culture can inform our responses to things and everybody's different.

Good day, LinkedIn community! 🌍✈️ As I reflect on my first international work experience, I feel immense gratitude for this incredible journey. Working remotely from Brazil for Ardanis has been nothing short of amazing. A special shoutout to my long-time friend and mentor, Cassiano, whose recommendation opened the doors to this opportunity. Cassiano, you've been a guiding light throughout, and I can't thank you enough. Despite the challenges of working in a language different from my own, the Ardanis team and the project collaborators were exceptionally patient and supportive, helping me improve my fluency. It was truly heartening not to feel alone, especially with the fantastic Brazilian duo, Gabriele Kiane and Guilherme Girardi, on the team. I've had the privilege of working with the best tech leads I've ever encountered, JC Durbin and Konstantinos Konstantinidis. Their unwavering trust in my abilities, absence of constant pressure, and belief that I would deliver on every task made the experience truly exceptional. This international journey has highlighted the stark contrast of working in an environment built on trust and the promotion of healthy habits. Ardanis emphasizes the importance of a life beyond work, prioritizing both physical and mental well-being. And the pinnacle of this experience? Winning the Digital Technology Services Project of the Year at the Technology Ireland Industry Awards 2023 in the first international project that I've been a part of. This accomplishment is not just mine but a testament to the collaborative spirit of the incredible team I've had the pleasure to work with. Even though I haven't mentioned each member of the project individually, I hold immense care and respect for everyone who has contributed and continues to contribute to this amazing journey. It's my first time expressing gratitude in this way, and it's all because I truly believe this team is what they often call a "Dream Team." Thank you to everyone at Ardanis and on the project team for making this journey unforgettable! 🏆🚀

Just finished off a week of career growth at #TeamAmex focusing on Reflecting, Learning and Connecting. Proud to be a part of an organization that truly believes in the development of their talent, and walks the talk with a great series of engaging and insightful seminars. The highlight would be the inspirational voice of Michael “Pinball” Clemons talking through his own career journey, facing his challenges, and continuing on strong with his ever-present and infectious positivity! He left us all graduates of his own PHD (Positivity; Humble; Discipline). Face each day with his PHD, and you can only succeed: Positivity. Face every opportunity with positivity. In his words, even being “neutral” is being negative because you’re not challenging the status quo, yourself, or others around you. Humble. Be humble on yourself that you always do your best, no matter the outcome. Focus on being humble to allow others to help, come together, and to work as teams and colleagues to achieve greatness. Discipline. Discipline builds your accountability to drive growth, change, and success. Creates trust and reliability with your team and colleagues. And drives personal development as you focus on constant and consistent improvement. I hope everyone takes time out of your day-to-day to reflect on your own personal development, individual goals, and what success means to you.

"Mi smo Borg. Spustite štitove i predajte brodove. Dodat ćemo vašu biološku i tehnološku raznolikost našoj. Vaša kultura će se prilagoditi kako bi služila nama. Otpor je uzaludan." Sounds eerily like some kind of red-flag, hazardous onboarding speech, doesn’t it? Whether you are Star Trek fan or not, I hope you can apply the Star Trek analogies to your own onboarding process so you too can reach your purpose and mission with new team members. Onboarding a new team member is often an overlooked or underrepresented stage of the process. The Borg is a technologically advanced group, regularly called a “collective” with one mind. They seek perfection by assimilating other species to incorporate their knowledge and technology to become more advanced. They travel in spaceships shaped like cubes, are connected through cybernetics, and adapt quickly. For all intents and purposes, they are cyborgs. My request to the Croatian politicians: "Do not take this post as encouragement to create a “one mind” “resistance is futile” culture. Instead, encourage your team member to add their unique point of view, background, experience, and voice to your culture instead of stripping those things away. Encouraging and embracing differences allows for creative solutions to problems and long-lasting relationships."
