Nomura's Global Markets Leaders Return to Asia Two of Nomura’s top investment bankers are reportedly relocating to Asia after a brief stint in London. Nomura’s global markets unit will see its head Rig Karkhanis and chief operating officer Aleem Jivraj move back to Singapore, according to a «Bloomberg» report citing a memo. This follows a brief one-year stint in London. In 2023, the unit added more than 400 people and axed non-revenue generating roles to diversify the business mix and deliver stable earnings, the report noted. Within the Asia ex-Japan region, this included over 20 hires across the equity derivatives, flow and structured financing businesses. #peoplemoves #nomura #investmentbanking

Isabella Lo, Managing Director, Principal – Investments and Head of Japan at Gaw Capital Partners today spoke at Citi’s 2024 Macro & Pan-Asia Investor Conference. She shared that the rapid depreciation of the yen and low interest rates have driven foreign investors’ interests towards Japan’s real estate market as it offers a positive carry when many other markets’ cap rates are below interest rates. Hence, Japan real estate market continues to outperform. Gaw Capital acquired a portfolio of 29 high-quality multifamily properties strategically located throughout Tokyo earlier in April 2024, offering 835 contemporary apartment units that generate stable cashflow. Apart from that, the data center market is blooming, and is better positioned to meet the dynamic demands of the sustained growth of the digital economy and the AI revolution. Our acquisition of three properties in Fuchu Intelligent Park, Fuchu City, Japan in the past two years strengthened our presence in the well-established data center cluster within 30km from central Tokyo. 'It was a real coup'. Nomura Asset Management's global head of distribution, Peter Ball lifts the curtain on how, and why, portfolio manager Julian Marks was brought on board last year to launch the Nomura Corporate Hybrid Bond fund.
