Recently, I had a conversation with Microsoft’s hiring manager, who shared an eye-opening statistic: - 80% of hires come from referrals. - There’s a flood of 500+ applications per position. So, what’s the secret? Focus on genuine relationships. Instead of solely seeking referrals, build meaningful connections. Network, nurture relationships, and find advocates who will vouch for you. It’s not just about what’s on your resume, but who knows you. Let’s shift our focus from chasing referrals to fostering real connections that propel our careers. We’ve now launched a new program where my team and I (most of whom are LinkedIn Top Voices and top recruiters) will support you until you secure a job, or you won’t have to pay! We only work with specific individuals, so if you’re interested, please comment “SUPPORT” below, and I will send you the application form!

🤷♂️How can I build relevant technical skills to better prepare myself for a new career? 🤷♀️What are some of the benefits of hiring those who have taken untraditional routes into tech? 🤷♂️How can I stand out/get my foot in the door, when applying for new roles? 🤷♀️How can I, as a Hiring Manager, be doing more to attract those from untraditional routes into my tech team 🤷♂️What should I be including on my CV? Just a few of the questions that you can expect to hear the answers to tomorrow, as Hera Voice🎙️teams up with Dr. Ailish McLaughlin and Lauren Gibson to discuss why its vital that the tech industry starts to prioritise skills, not schools! Saving Business Owners & Directors time, money and sanity 😁 supporting you to build an elite team to dominate your industry 💥 with a sprinkle of positivity, fun and some banter & laughs for good measure 😂
I’m still on a high 😃 Not just because I ran a marathon… But someone messaged me on LinkedIn… ‘I saw that you're an IT Recruitment specialist’… And it made me smile from ear to ear 😁 Do you wanna know why? Because technically, I'm not an IT specialist... But I do pride myself on helping technical clients... And making sure they get the right person for the job 🙌 IT roles are so important! We always say that personality is key... But with technical roles, the skills are very important too! We make sure that before we promise to fill the position... We know exactly what skills are needed... What platforms and software experience is desired... And we tick these boxes for you ✔️ Not only are the people right... The price is right too! We don't charge an arm and a leg for IT roles either 💰 Just because they might be harder So get in touch and I'll tell you all about it 😀 #IT #Microsoft #TechnicalRoles

Finally a Googler now — accepted my first full-time role🥳 This journey has been one of hard work, dedication, and continuous learning. And while I'm still taking it all in, I wanted to share some of the key resume strategies that helped me get shortlisted at companies like Google, Atlassian, Intuit, Amazon, DE Shaw, LinkedIn etc. and some international companies like Bloomberg, Hudson River Trading, Palantir! 👉🏻 Carefully read the JD and align your skills and experiences to match the requirements. 👉🏻 Clearly list your programming languages, frameworks and tools in a "Technical Skills" section. 👉🏻 Aim for a 1-page resume and highlight specific keywords to pass the ATS scan. Remember, your resume is your ticket to interviews and ultimately, great offers. However, if your resume isn’t getting shortlisted, try connecting with expert SDEs for evaluation and guidance. Start with a FREE session - https://lnkd.in/gpNHBc78 I believe these sessions would be beneficial for you, as these SDEs go far and beyond to help their mentees secure their dream roles, I’m sure they will help you, too🚀 #OfferLetter #InterviewSuccess #Collab #PreplacedCollab #ResumeTips #Google #Noogler #firstjob #fulltime #software #softwarenengineer #newjob #job #opportunity #resume #referral

Statistically, only 1% of the population ends up in the top 1% of any skill. It is likely it won't be you. When comparing you with someone who has identical skills, it becomes challenging to select you. So how do you make yourself stand out in the age of intense competition? "Skill stacking" - emphasize acquiring proficiency and knowledge in various but connected fields. Don't just chase the 1% status in one area, but target achieving the upper 5-15% tier in various domains. Combine your talent with experiences in different fields to stay unique to employers. Show skills diversity in social, professional and personal level. Although, we still live in the world where specialization is encouraged. Looking at today's hyper competition and layoffs - - flexibility, consistent self-improvement and expertise in array of disciplines can be a key to success. I believe that "Jack of all trades, master of none" should be put behind us and one career path should not be highly encouraged. I could never really answer the question: What is your career? Although, marketing and sales are my main domains, I have always been working on projects or different jobs simultaneously. These days I embrace my growth and skills diversity. I constantly learn and grow my interests if it is investing, cloud computing or healthcare. Recruiters: Will you encourage applicants to stay flexible and obtain skills in various fields? Leave your thoughts in comments 👇 ----- Source: Peter Hollins "Polymath"
