🌟 Corporate Challenge with Schenker Ventures, MVP Factory, and DB Schenker In a two-week corporate challenge in May, my team and I explored hydrogen-powered solutions for goods transportation. We analyzed the feasibility and advisability of replacing standard combustion engine-powered road transports with hydrogen-powered trucks for line haul operations between major airports, aiming to reduce the carbon footprint. Our final solution included: 🚚 Evaluation of hydrogen truck technology for cost-efficiency, sustainability, and safety. 🛣 Analysis of market potential and environment (Porter’s 5 Forces) for logistics companies focused on long-haul transport with hydrogen trucks. 📜Examination of the regulatory environment and factors that could benefit or hinder this solution. 💨 Comparison of lifecycle emissions among diesel trucks, electric trucks, and hydrogen trucks, highlighting significant CO2 savings with hydrogen trucks. 💶 Comparison of total cost of ownership (TCO) between hydrogen trucks and traditional diesel trucks. ⛽ Recommendations for specific routes based on current feasibility (refueling stations), hub importance, and hydrogen range. Our findings suggest that hydrogen trucks could be a viable solution and an important step towards the future of transportation. In Europe, with its extensive infrastructure, rapid technological advancements, and progressive regulatory support, hydrogen trucks are set to become as cost-efficient and profitable as diesel trucks in just a few years. Moreover, the significant emissions reductions offered by hydrogen trucks minimize environmental impact, making them a better choice compared to both diesel and electric trucks. 🙌 This project’s success was made possible by the hard work and dedication of my team. Thank you! Team: Ilona Kammerlander, Tommaso Galetti, Greta Maria Sichirollo, Adelya Mirmanova Last but not least, a huge thanks to Kai Luke Kersting for hosting us at MVP Factory, and Fabian Wiktor and Steffen Bahr for their guidance throughout the project!

Head of Marketing at Green.TV Media | Emobility and sustainability specialist looking to instigate societal change to better the world.
Really, really fascinating piece on Advanced Electric Machines receiving a sizable amount of funding to explore the possibility of rare earth and copper free EV motor, notably what it means geopolitically. As wonderfully articulated by John Hills in the latest ElectricDrives piece, "...the global race to produce an EV motor with minimal reliance on rare earth elements has intensified. European, US and Japanese automakers are actively seeking alternatives to mitigate dependence on China’s dominance in rare earth mining". As the transition to all forms of emobility gathers ever stronger momentum, emobility itself certainly feels like the catalyst for newer economic powers to challenge 'traditional' economic powerhouses. Definitely worth a read before you shut your laptop lid for the week, whether you are interested in the politics or the technological development of emobility! #ElectricVehicles | #EV | #EVTechnology | #EMobility |#EconomicInsights | #ElectricCars

📣 From Piemonte Italy’s pursuit of direct capture of #CO2 from the air starts. The Turin startup CarpeCarbon has been awarded a loan of 1.7 million euros to build the first DAC (Direct Air Capture) technology plant in Italy developed by an Italian company. The only precedent is a pilot plant in Troy, Apulia, launched in 2018 by Switzerland’s Climeworks, one of the pioneers in this field. CarpeCarbon technology circumvents some limits and critical points of direct CO2 capture from the air. “The DAC technologies currently available are extremely energy-intensive and often rely on minerals critical to the production of energy from renewable sources,” explains the startup. “CarpeCarbon’s innovative technology provides a scalable and energy-efficient solution to remove large amounts of CO2 from the air without competing with the energy transition for resources while reducing energy costs”. It uses renewable energy, does not use chemical pollutants or dangerous to health, and its supply chain does not depend on critical raw materials. #SENnews #environmnent #globalwarming #greeneconomy #solar #eolic #energy #greenenergy #solarenergy #windenergy #sustainable #sustainabledevelopment

An innovation by Staffordshire-based Bri-Stor Systems could save one of its clients an estimated £500,000 of fuel consumption annually. The UK’s largest converter of lightweight commercial vehicles, Bri-stor is constantly innovating to meet its customers’ bespoke needs. Based in Hixon, near Stafford, the company has around 250 employees and is part of The HEX Group that was founded more than 40 years ago. The company’s latest development is a result of a client setting the challenge of powering tyre machines with high energy demands whilst reducing the impact on the environment. A custom-built prototype vehicle is now delivering the results the customer needs to make significant change across the fleet. This prototype has been tested and developed over a two-year period with the most recent iteration completing trials to the highest standards in demanding city centre locations including Birmingham and London. Bri-Stor Systems invested more than £50,000 in purchasing a new vehicle, tyre and air compressor equipment and lithium batteries and then converting the interior to the exact customer specification. Its pioneering lithium-based solution provides a 10x increase in renewable energy available when compared to the first prototype deployed 18 months earlier, empowering the vehicle to operate all onboard equipment for an entire working day without the engine running. The prototype was able to deliver a 45% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2, successfully changing more than 200 tyres in a single month without the need to run the engine. This vehicle has now proven the business case for change and, as a result, a number of other large corporate fleet operators in the mobile tyre sector are looking to place orders. The savings for this particular customer, when averaged across their fleet of almost 300 vehicles, amounts to around £500,000 of fuel consumption and more than 1,000,000 kg of CO2 annually. A Bri-Stor Systems spokesman said: “Our innovative solution for sustainable energy in the tyre industry is more than a technological leap it’s a testament to our relentless pursuit of excellence.” Bri-Stor Systems Ltd has entered the Innovation Award category (sponsored by SG Fleet UK) of the Staffordshire University Business Awards. #SUBA2024 #proudtobestaffs
