✅ 👩🏽💻 🎓 BCBA Pass Rate Data 🎓 👩🏽💻 ✅ I’m always interested in how behavior analytic programs are doing now that I am not a student. Since my graduation, we’ve seen the board (Behavior Analyst Certification Board - BACB) publish exam pass rates over the years. Not all of us get the updates at a conference or have time to crunch the numbers. Plus, I am never satisfied with long .PDFs of tables of data; this analysis came from a 55-page report. So I did the work for you. 😎 These data and interest may be of interest to you if you are: 1. Shopping around for a grad school to attend 2. A student in a program and not satisfied with your current experience 3. An alumni of a particular program 4. A faculty member or program director in charge of an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program. 5. A faculty member or program director creating a new ABA program. What the data say: - The OVERALL pass rate among all programs in 2021 = 61% for first-time test takers - Of the 180 institutions that provide an ABA course sequence, On Campus programs are the most common (72) —> I was actually surprised on this one - 58% of students are enrolled primarily in online ONLY programs - On Campus Program led the pack with more exam pass rates above >80% (23) My insights: - Even though most students are online, online pass rates are much lower overall - If you have the opportunity to study on campus, you are more likely to pass the exam on the first attempt. - From the Top 20 list, I think we can put Auburn, UKansas and Beijing likely in the On-Campus category, boosting the argument for the quality of on-campus programs. When the 2022 pass rate data are published, my source indicates mid-year 2023, it will interesting to see what the numbers balloon to given the proliferation of online coursework. Notes of the data: - The data come from downloadable .PDFs from BACB.com - Data are #boardcertifiedbehavioranalyst exam data only - I listed the Top 20 here, message me if interested in the full list ❤️ Give your professors and colleagues love if you made the Top 20 list! Enjoy! Comment and share with colleagues that you think would find these data helpful! (and if you read this far, I will likely update these data and publish the dashboard for all to enjoy 😎) ---Post Update 1/9/23 --- ATTN everyone... After realizing a small data and aggregation error over the weekend... These are the updated pass rate data = 6398/10799 or 59% Overall Pass Rate (2% lower 😬) I will comment below with a picture of the updated individual pass rate by institution. #behavioranalyst #BCBA #dataanalysis #powerbi

See edited comment in post: Check out the top 15ish pass rates by program type Each bar graph is a count of programs in that pass rate group (e.g., 10 on-campus programs had 100% pass rate) by mode

At least 2 of the N/P programs (Auburn and FSU) in that top 20 are on-campus. I think KU is a “both”. I like these data! I do wish there were some changes on the BACB side to allow for a better analysis.

What’s the general opinion on 61% pass rate for first time takers? Does that simply mean that there is not exam prep or that content is not known well enough outside of just preparing for the exam?

Love an info graphic!! . What I found interesting is that none of the top 20 are designated as online model. I'd love to further dig into the "both" option to see how many who passed were all in person VS online. In general, I'm concerned about the disproportionate % of students who are in online only programs VS. How few of those programs had 80+% passing.

Thanks for posting this, Nicholas. As I perused the list, I didn't see SSU on the list at all. That's surprising, and I wondered if it is because we recently became an accredited program. I'd love to see the analysis also broken down according to master's-only versus doctoral programs.

Great summary Nick! Only thing missing for me from the data (which just currently isn’t being collected) is supervision data. I’d be curious to see how structured supervision opportunities compare to find your own supervisor programs and if that impacts pass rates at all.

Very interesting. However, you can't forget this is based on the 4th task list which required fewer classes AND we will never see this TL again.

I didn’t know some of these programs existed. Some are very new.
