#SustainabilitySaturday | Today we're highlighting Tchoup Industries. Tchoup (pronounced "Chop") Industries is a New Orleans-based company specializing in handmade bags and accessories. Founded by Patti Dunn in 2013, the company is named after Tchoupitoulas Street, a famous thoroughfare in New Orleans. Dunn, who previously worked as a pack and luggage designer in the outdoor industry, wanted to create a brand emphasizing local craftsmanship and sustainable practices. The company's products include backpacks, shoulder bags, bike bags, and wallets made from locally sourced or recycled materials. For instance, they use nylon straps from the automobile industry, old rice bags, and nutria fur, an invasive rodent species in Louisiana. This approach not only supports local suppliers but also promotes environmental sustainability. They also received Love Your City USA's silver Local Culture and Energy badges.
