The New Jersey Department of Labor (NJDOL) is raising awareness of several new laws and regulations in effect this summer that may impact certain workers and employers. These include the Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights, an increased federal salary threshold for overtime exemptions, an updated municipal Prevailing Wage Contract Threshold Amount, and new certified payroll reporting requirements for public works contractors. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) recently kicked off its fourth annual Youth Inclusion Initiative program, which partners with community-based organizations to give young people from overburdened communities the opportunity to learn about various careers in the environmental field. Several of the program’s guest speakers work alongside the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development (NJDOL) to open career pathways to sustainable green jobs for those from underserved communities. The New Jersey Department of Labor (NJDOL) in July added the names of 10 businesses to its Workplace Accountability in Labor List (The WALL), bringing to 178 the number of employers that have failed to address their outstanding liabilities for violations of wage, benefit or tax laws. The 178 businesses posted to The WALL collectively owe $18 million – either directly to their workers or to the state for unpaid taxes or contributions. Read more: https://ow.ly/OHz750SzWqk

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and New Jersey Department of Labor (NJDOL) Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo today jointly announced an agreement with Horseless Carriage Carrier, Inc.—a company that withheld unlawful deductions from their employees’ pay after illegally classifying them as independent contractors.
