How old is TMS? 👉 rTMS was first established in 1985 by Dr Anthony Barker and colleagues in the UK. For the last 35+ years it has continued to be studied extensively by medical professionals and researchers all around the world. Today there is a wealth of medical research on TMS, with the advances and efficacies of this form of treatment continuing to grow. As time continues to progress, protocols are continuing to become more effective and convenient, and findings are beginning to emerge for a wider range of psychological and neurological conditions. 🧠 📒 At Modalis, our TMS techniques use a specific neuronavigation system developed by Brain Science Tools at Utrecht University (Netherlands). This system has been used extensively since 2004 in the research and clinical applications of TMS. 📒 In 2007, the TGA approved TMS in Australia for treating depression. The RANZCP also endorsed the treatment for depression in 2013, adding TMS to it’s Professional Practice Guidelines in 2018. 📒 In 2021, TMS was added to the Medicare Benefits Scheme in Australia, allowing eligible patients to access a number of rebates for their TMS sessions, and making TMS treatment more accessible for Australians. 📲 For regular updates on TMS, make sure to follow Modalis on Instagram and Facebook (with LinkedIn also available for medical practitioners). #tms #transcranialmagneticstimulation #repetitivetranscranialmagneticstimulation #rtms #brainstimulation #tmsaustralia #perthmedicalcommunity #TMSperth #depression #midland

This study shows that during the Early Intensive Neurorehabilitation program, a large percentage of people with PDOC regain at least a minimal conscious state or even consciousness. These outcomes and the frequent medical complications in this group suggest that intensive specialized care should be offered to all people with PDOC. The findings of this study may improve the medical care/management of people with PDOC and might help health professionals to inform the families of people with PDOC about the short-term prognosis of PDOC. Future research into long-term outcomes, quality of life and cost-effectiveness is necessary for further improvement of care/rehabilitation following PDOC and is on the way, Danielle Driessen Cecile U.
