ACROSS Project H2020 featured in an article published by Partner TECNALIA Research & Innovation 🇪🇺 The European Commission, in order to modernise and optimise the provision of public services, is promoting the implementation of Intelligent Public Services or electronic administration at the local, regional, national level and between member states. 💻 A significant step towards achieving this goal is the creation of a shared platform for open innovation in a secure and trusted digital environment. Today Granicus awarded the Puerto Rico Innovation and Technology Service’s CESCO Digital app with second place in the Digital Transformation category, competing with submissions from all over the world. 🥈 That’s me up on stage, along with current and former CIOs who played an important part in making this tech what it is today. While there’s plenty of key contributors missing in this picture, it’s a clear example of what you get when government is able to keep building on previous administrations’ achievements. It’s no secret that continuity is not within governments’ strengths. In fact, when dealing with software development particularly, both public and private sector are often plagued by a lack of the processes that enable reliable, digital services. Add political turmoil to the mix, and a project in development is almost guaranteed a death sentence. But against all odds, CESCO Digital has turned out to be a success story of continuous iteration and improvement. I am both humbled and proud to have contributed to this initiative, and feel hopeful for the same result with others launched by the PRITS team. I wanted to bring a pressing issue to your attention that I believe needs collective awareness— the growing digital divide in Belgium, affecting more than just vulnerable groups. 📈 *The Stats Speak for Themselves:* From 2019 to 2021, the percentage of Belgians at risk of digital exclusion increased from 40% to 46%. 👥 *It Affects Us All:* A recent campaign by DigitAll highlighted four real-life stories of individuals directly impacted by this divide. From healthcare access issues to challenges in employment and education rights. 🔑 *Digital Exclusion = Social Exclusion:* As Petra De Sutter, the Minister of Telecommunications, pointed out, digital exclusion is like missing a key to a house you want to enter. 🤝 *Let's Take Action:* As part of the tech community, we have a responsibility to address this issue. Be it through training programs, educational initiatives, or providing access to essential resources. This is an excellent opportunity for us all to reflect and, more importantly, to act.
