“Steelmaker Salzgitter agrees to buy green hydrogen supply from Uniper — but only if a 280km #H2 #pipeline is built” “Provisional deal envisages 20,000 tonnes delivered from proposed 1GW plant in Wilhelmshaven” “Sandrina Sieverdingbeck, managing director DEUMU union; Holger Kreetz, Uniper chief operating officer; Gunnar Groebler, Salzgitter CEO; Christian Stuckmann, Uniper's VP of hydrogen business development.Photo: Salzgitter/Uniper” Rachel Parkes - 24 April 2024 “German steel giant Salzgitter has signed a provisional agreement to buy 20,000 tonnes of green hydrogen from Uniper from 2028 — but only if a massive 280km #H2pipeline can be either built or repurposed to transport it.” “The pre-contract deal envisages the supply coming from 200MW of Uniper’s proposed 1GW Wilhelmshaven #greenhydrogen plant on Germany’s northwest coast, some 287km by road from Salzgitter’s #steelplant in the city of Salzgitter, Lower Saxony.” “The green hydrogen would be used to make #directreducediron (#DRI) as part of Salzgitter’s Salcos (Salzgitter #LowCO2Steelmaking ) #decarbonisation programme — for which it has received more than €1bn ($1.07bn) in subsidies, and to which it has committed €1bn of its own funds.” “However, the deal rests upon the Wilhelmhaven to Salzgitter leg of Germany’s proposed €20bn “core” #hydrogenpipelinenetwork being up and running on time, the pair warned.” “The 9,700km German network would be financed by the private sector, built by #gasnetworkoperators across both existing #gaslines and new pipes, but underwritten by the German government under a framework agreed in Berlin earlier this month.” “”A pipeline connection from Wilhelmshaven to Salzgitter is absolutely essential and must be established as quickly as possible,” they said in a joint statement. “The pipeline operators and political decision-makers, together with Salzgitter AG and Uniper SE, urgently need to agree on an accelerated timetable for this.”” https://lnkd.in/eX7CxFHj Source- original post Read all my posts #MariusPreston

HH2E was established to address the growing demand for green hydrogen in Germany, which is vital for supporting the country's decarbonization initiatives and restoring its energy sovereignty, in which the UK-listed funds Foresight Group and HydrogenOne Capital LLP own stakes. The rising trend in the local hydrogen market today is evident, as showcased by the success of thyssenkrupp nucera’s IPO and numerous efforts by the Federal Ministry for Economics and Climate Action. Following last week's announcement regarding key milestones validating Provaris' leading position in the scaling of the hydrogen for Europe, Longspur has issued a new research note on Provaris’ emerging venture for small-scale storage solutions applicable for onshore industrial storage and maritime bunking applications. This venture has the potential to bring forward revenue from the commercialisation of proprietary IP into 2024. "Provaris has developed a commercial hydrogen storage solution based on the tank design for its hydrogen shipping vessels. Without the need for type rating this allows the company to introduce a highly competitive storage solution to the market in this calendar year. That in turn could see useful cashflow helping to offset cash burn until the vessels themselves come on the market along with their associated hydrogen export projects," write Longspur analysts Adam Forsyth and Max Campbell. Please note that all estimates are based on Longspur's research. The team at Longspur are available directly to take any questions. View the report below:
