I had the honor of exhibiting my self-portrait, “Identity” at the exhibition, InVisible: A Reclaiming of the Asian Gaze. It was such a nurturing experience to connect with other Asian American artists and be inspired by the diverse experiences depicted. “Identity” is a fragmented collage of my journey to fulfill my own identity. I am also incredibly grateful that my essay on “Asian baby girls” was also published in the inVisible magazine. What does it mean to be an Asian Baby Girl? While the phrase might insinuate the infantilization of Asian girls, the self-imposed stereotype was actually meant to instill confidence and exclusivity within Asian American women. I wrestle with the uplifting moments and pitfalls of being an ABG. My essay can be read here: https://lnkd.in/gd37iThG While being Asian has many meanings, being Asian also means embracing all of our differences. Happy AAPI month!
