It's common knowledge that Muse3D & Virtual Tourism New Zealand was created to promote the our hospitality & tourism industry through full-immersion, virtual reality. However, when we started this in 2019, I never anticipated that the response would take me into some of the most beautiful, mysterious amazing sites that our country has to offer, and to be asked to work on them has been an utter privilege, to say the least.
Utilising the #matterport scanning system, as well as the #leicacamera BLK360, has taken me into caves, abandoned, historical buildings, and so many others. In the 5 years that Muse3D & Virtual Tourism New Zealand has been running, we have completed nearly 4,500 scans, with the smallest being one scan point (a communications room in a museum), with our largest being approx. 500 scan points.
Many of these have been for real estate, but the majority have been to promote our tourism industry, and we have never looked back.
Just recently, I was asked why I do what I do, and was there a need for it still now that the boarders are open. The answer is simple, because I can. I am an ideas man, my brain never stops working, and I like it that way. As for "is there still a need?" absolutely!
We all have our favourite places that we like to work. I have several, because every place is different.I was born in Wellington, so that speaks for itself, I call the Hawke's Bay my second home for other reasons, and the list goes on. Historic churches, villages and other buildings all come with their own stories, good and bad, but they are all beautiful in their own way. #Hawkesbayoperahouse, because of its beauty and history, or the #historicnapierprison, because of its history, and what it can teach us, or the #howickhistoricvillage, which has been viewed 112, 523 times in 2 years, or the Oruawharo Historic Homestead, that is a work of art. These places are why we do what we do, and we do what we do because we can. Our history must also be preserved, and that's our goal, and we are not about to stop.
Next week will see us back in Wellington, working with the Wellington City Council, and a few undisclosed locations, so watch this space!
This is just one of our favourite scans. Direct from our capital city, Wellington.
