For anyone who might have missed it, we wanted to share a little throwback to Cannes Film Festival and one of our favourite long-time MYKITA enthusiasts: Oscar-winning actress and goodwill ambassador for the UN agency for refugees Cate Blanchett, who was wearing STUDIO 14.2 during a talk to advocate for the inclusion of more refugee voices and narratives in the film industry.
The celebration of South Africa's 30 years of democracy through film focuses on a significant milestone in the country's journey towards reconciliation and progress. The end of apartheid unleashed a surge of creativity in the film industry, providing filmmakers with newfound freedom to explore diverse narratives and perspectives. Cinema, as a powerful medium of expression, has played a pivotal role in shaping the national identity and fostering dialogue on social issues. Through storytelling, South African filmmakers have confronted the legacies of apartheid, celebrated the resilience of the human spirit, and advocated for a more inclusive society. As the nation continues to navigate its complex history and identity, cinema remains a vital tool for reflection, reconciliation, and envisioning a brighter future. #SouthAfrica#DemocracyCelebration#FilmIndustry#SocialChange#Identity#Inclusion#CinemaReflectionshttps://lnkd.in/eVZJgu76
We all need to watch these two oscar nominated documentary films then we will understand how dangerous Putin's world is.
Mariupol occupied
Navalny killed
and what documentary films we are waiting for next year?
This brother Yuval gives me hope that our next generation can reach understanding and coexistence.
Yet his family’s home has been broken into in search for him as he was labeled an antisemite by Channel 11 in Israel (he is israeli and jewish). That gives me fear and anxiety about our present.
This hope for the future and fear of the present is not new. It happens everytime I see solidarity grow. Yet everytime solidarity grows brutality increases. I am afraid that our people’s, especially Palestinian people’s, systemic cleansing will succeed before the world acknowledges it for what it is.
We live between hope and fear, both of which are toxins. As hope lifts us the destruction grounds in the reality. As the fear sets in, we see glimmers of solidarity that renews hope before its crushed again.
These waves come and go and take more of our patience into the sea of powerlessness.
Personally, I feel small in the face of these challenges. Whoever knows me knows that I am not a small person. I have presence, projection, presentation, all of what it takes to be noticed. Yet all I hear is my echo in a shell. All I can do is watch from rock bottom. All I can do is retreat further into myself.
Its been months and I start almost everyday this way. With these thoughts. How have your last few months been?

All views expressed are my own. I am accepting all connection requests from people who are standing up for the injustices currently taking place in Palestine and around the world.
Germany’s minister of state for culture has insisted she was only clapping the Israeli but not the Palestinian half of a film-making duo that won one of the major awards at the politically charged closing ceremony for the Berlin film festival.
So she didn't have a problem with the film just the Palestinian

Once again, we are gathering some of the most prolific African film makers of our time to discuss the prospects of ethical storytelling in film making. What informs the choices of stories by our film makers - audience preferences, inspiration, commercial viability, entertainment? Is it profitable to make narrative-shifting films? Is it easier and more entertaining and viable to reinforce existing stereotypes? So many questions begging for answers. Join me at the 12th edition of the Africa International Film Festival as I host a panel of expert film makers to examine these questions. You definitely don't want to miss this...

There is a rich and complex history of film in both Africa and Latin America. In the African diaspora, filmmakers such as Ousmane Sembène, Haile Gerima, and Djibril Diop Mambéty have explored themes of colonialism, cultural identity, and the experience of migration. In Latin America, filmmakers like Fernando Solanas, Patricio Guzmán, and Jorge Sanjinés have used film to explore themes of political struggle, social inequality, and the legacy of colonialism. These filmmakers have created a vibrant and diverse body of work that has been an important part of the cultural landscape.

Im just baffled how testimonials like this, from a Black African refugee, would be entirely ingored by the anti-racist movement? Same goes for all of the other social and civil rights activism in the US.
If you support Hamas or support the elimination of Israel, then you support:
racism
sex discrimination
gender discrimination
religious persecution
totalitarianism
“Honor” killings
Denial if a woman’s right to choose
Democracy
