Tech history highlight: today marks the anniversary of RCA’s first commercial broadcast in 1939 from the New York World’s Fair. At the time of the broadcast, there were very few people who saw it. Bloomberg estimated less than 1,000 televisions served as the initial installed base. But as you can see below, that number has steadily increased to near universal adoption. Bloomberg also reported that the first paid commercial was from Bulova and cost a whopping $7….my how far we’ve come. Many of us alive today have essentially grown up with television and the medium can easily seem to be both a fabric of our lives and simultaneously unremarkable. But at the time, this was as cutting edge and as futuristic as it gets. As we scramble around the latest tech craze of #AI, it behooves us to look back and note that at one time RCA was one of the most technologically advanced companies with a coveted stock similar to many high-flying tech plays today….but just like bicycles, railroads, radio, and television these cutting edge themes can fade in profitability while becoming ubiquitous. ARA Community Webinar (Feb. 23): General Availability & Co-Creation Programs I am excited to share that the NSF Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) program has officially certified ARA (https://arawireless.org) as Generally Available, and ARA is well prepared for supporting research and innovation in Open-Source NextG, O-RAN, TVWS Massive MIMO, COTS 5G, Wireless X-Haul, Spectrum Innovation, and more.   While we continue strengthening the ARA technical capabilities through its Phase-2 development (https://lnkd.in/gcygtWfD), we are looking forward to supporting community use of ARA in research and innovation, and we expect to organize the following ARA community activities: 1) "Action Clusters" for collaboratively addressing major wireless challenges such as those in 6G and O-RAN: ARA expects to provide dedicated support for those users participating in collaborative teams to address open wireless challenges such as high-throughput, ultra-reliable, and low-latency communications in 6G; 2) "2024 ARA Annual Event": ARA expects to organize its second annual community event immediately after the 2024 Farm Progress Show (https://lnkd.in/gZy-qhxs), which is a premiere event in AgTech and will take place within the ARA coverage area. We are eager to announce about the new #Discovery documentary series Being Digi-Sapiens that is exploring the changing relationship between humans and technology. Travelling across #Europe, the series reveals the personal, societal and environmental benefits of digitisation. The first episode of the three-part documentary series was released today by Warner Bros. Discovery. It features the Swedish inventor, roboticist and YouTuber Simone Giertz as she travels across Europe to see how technology is transforming our daily lives. The series was made with support from #Huawei and features a broad range of digital innovations. The first episode, “Connecting with Ourselves” explores digital technology’s impact on our homes, health and hospitals. After kicking things off in a tech-enhanced fiber-connected home in Bonn, claiming to have one of the “fastest internet connections in Germany”, Simone heads to a state-of-the-art sports and health lab to see first-hand how both professional and amateur athletes are benefiting from cutting-edge data collection. Finally, Simone visits Barcelona’s historical Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau to get a crash course in how the latest technologies are being harnessed to help patients more effectively. In the coming two episodes, Simone will crisscross more European countries to discover how technology is helping us connect with our communities and our environment.  With this video series, we aim to demonstrate the value that technology brings to the lives and communities of European citizens and our work with partners to develop a smarter, healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.
