3 years in Copenhagen, Denmark 🇩🇰! The first time I landed in March 2021 (the exact picture here!) was also the first time I ever stepped foot in this country. That was the tail end of the COVID lockdowns, and I still needed to self quarantine for 7 days in the hotel before going out. As I had a grand total of 0 friends in the city when I moved, I quickly got lonely in a few weeks and was second guessing my choice to move here. But now, the city feels completely home 🏡 ! Thanks to having a good amount of friends 👯 and a good time at work 💼 - where I've had multiple roles and grown in my career! Can't deny that it was not easy - For me these are the few biggest challenges and how I tackled it: 👬 1. How to make new friends? A: Work friends, volunteering (2021 Copenhagen Pride was also World Pride!), INSEAD alumni network, friends of friends, and language class. What would work but I did not use was sport associations such as Pan Idræt. 📞 2. How to stay connected with existing friends in different time zones? A: Start accepting that people will drift apart when physical location is too far, and start doing more spontaneous calls instead of planned. Planned calls feels too much like work at this point. 🌡 3. How to get used to the weather? (And by extension, what to wear at different temperature points) A: Trial and error, but a good waterproof shoes and raincoat are must-haves! 🗣 4. How to start learning the language? A: Just use the free government classes. I did hybrid classes at Studieskolen (Tuesday evening online and Thursday evening face-to-face), and that worked very well. Typical challenges for foreigners who come in (Thankfully A.P. Moller - Maersk solved these for me through their agent that supported relocation) are: 1. 🏠 Getting address that can accommodate CPR registration 2. 🏦 Setting up a bank account #Copenhagen #GlobalMobility #Expat #Denmark

In carrying out any long-term projects, thesis work, or job searches, don’t we all encounter moments where our thoughts get tangled and our faith wavers, making it difficult to keep going? 🪢 What helps then to unravel the knots of the mind? Peer support, I think. On Monday, we experienced this firsthand at Uppsala University's Sustainable Destination Development Alumni event for alumni and current students. Our special guest, Mr. Eduardo Santander, Executive Director of the European Travel Commission shared encouraging yet realistic insights of the tourism industry for the future sustainability professionals. He addressed the principle of three P's (passion, perseverance, presents). This refers to working from your core to make the change and let your values and inherent talents be the underlying asset of it. Nothing comes from nothing, and everything comes from everything, therefore staying patiently persistent for your purpose matters. We got reminded to shift our minds into more hopeful place even in times when the world appears chaotic, a good example of which is the travel industry. Tourism tends to go from 100 to 0 and 0 to 100 quite rapidly. This does not make it an ideal playground for executing sustainability. However, if we look at it opportunistically, tourism has always bounced back from crises that has shaken humanity. People were born to be nomads, otherwise we would have roots over feet. Not to sound too much of a wishy washy, however, I think, that our minds are either our greatest asset or hindrances. Therefore, peer support like Alumni events become handy overcoming blocks and despair in our thinking to get things moving again, whether it is about getting that first job after studies, making an impact on decision makers or even about getting those daily task done, which been avoided for way too long. Did I laugh out loud at the fact that Norway, Germany and South Korea are on the worst 10 list? A little bit, yes. It's all a matter of perspective of course - I have had a blast in all three of them, but that's not to take away from the fact that it's quite difficult to make a home there. Why? 🌄 Cultural nuances: It's very hard to meet and become true friends with Norwegians and South Koreans (I haven't lived in Germany as an adult and cannot say) in my experience. Norwegians tend to stick to what they already know and keep those circles separate. The kindergarden friend group won't mingle with the university friend group for example. Whereas in South Korea there's a big language barrier - so in order to get closer to people you would definitely need to be fairly fluent in the language in my opinion (not because they don't want to, but they're shy and scared to make mistakes in English) 🌅 Jobs: It's extremely difficult to get a job in these countries without having either studied there previously, or a proven track record that you speak the language. My experience job searching in Norway was definitely that companies were reluctant and/or scared to hire foreigners due to potential language barriers, or simply because the way you get a job is through a network there - you need to know someone to get in, given how small and insular the society has been thus far. Things are changing, and the main industry this really doesn't apply to is engineering/oil and gas, which is incredibly international. In Korea you need a level 6 language certificate for most jobs (which is basically native level/very high fluency) to get a job interview. The main issue here seems to be that companies don't know how to deal with foreign talent and feel like it would be hard to integrate them into the Korean workforce. 🌉 Bureaucracy: Don't get me started. All 3 countries could have a phd extraordinaire in bureaucracy.... Given I'm an EU national it was very easy to get residency in Norway. However, being a foreigner in Korea is different and the visa situation here is really hard. 🌃 That being said - I've met some of the best people I know in all of those countries! Some of my best friends are there. The people of South Korea have been incredibly kind to me. All of them are my home and I will always feel great being there, so take everything with a grain of salt. And privilege - I'm very acutely aware of my privilege being a white European in these situations. But there's beauty to be found in all of them and I would still encourage people to go and live there - just make sure to not wear rose-tinted glasses when doing so :)

Automation of Routine Tasks: AI automates repetitive tasks, such as data entry, lead scoring, and email marketing, freeing up sales and marketing teams to focus on high-value activities like strategy development and building customer relationships. In summary, AI's ability to process data, personalize marketing efforts, predict future trends, provide automated support, and streamline tasks makes it a powerful tool for achieving success in sales and marketing in the future.

🌟 Excited to share my consulting experience with Life Terra! 🌍 I'm thrilled to have participated in Future 17, an innovative module that connects aspiring consultants with businesses. Led by the University of Exeter and QS, Future 17 aims to bridge the gap between the world's leading universities and global organisations, fostering collaboration and innovation. During my engagement with the team, I delved into the realm of strategic initiatives, focusing on climate mitigation strategies. One highlight was conceptualising "Trees for Travel," a unique approach targeting international academic mobility and tourists as an alternative to carbon offsetting payments. This initiative emphasised geolocation as a distinctive selling point for Life Terra's "adopt a tree" function. Collaborating with a dynamic team, I spearheaded various facets of the project, from crafting compelling social media content to developing comprehensive email marketing templates and curating an influencer database. My role as lead communicator allowed me to hone my project management skills, fostering effective communication among peers and professionals while navigating intercultural dynamics. This experience further deepened my understanding of intercultural communication, as I learned to navigate diverse perspectives and communication styles, fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment. One of the pivotal moments was orchestrating a marketing campaign and business expansion for Life Terra Foundation. This was presented in the form of a business report and pitch presentation which exercised my skills in written and verbal communication. From designing cohesive social media content to creating an engaging presentation, I immersed myself in the principles of design thinking, fostering collaborative learning and intercultural exchange. Moreover, I prioritised team cohesion and resilience, devising contingency plans to overcome challenges and ensuring project completion at the highest standard. Active listening to client feedback further sharpened my commercial awareness, reinforcing the importance of attention to detail and understanding the broader strategic objectives. Recently, I was invited to speak about the success of my project to potential future business collaborators, furthering the impact of our initiatives. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to Life Terra's mission while honing my skills in consulting, project management, and intercultural collaboration in address of the Sustainable Development Goals. I don't normally share things like this, but I'm sharing this particular one for a few reasons. 1) I was given the opportunity to be involved in developing the "Sustainability" module, which I'm now certified to teach/facilitate (along with the other modules, but obviously this is where my heart is! ❤️ 🌎 🌱 ) 2) I met and worked alongside three amazing women at BTA (you know who you are but I'll tag you in my comments anyway just to big you up) who taught me how to value myself as a professional and practice communicating my professional thoughts. 👑 3) This process put me one step closer on my journey to combining my sustainability certification, my background in marine science and science communication, and my relentless obsession with bringing regenerative tourism to Bermuda. 🌏 + 🌊 + 🛫 + culture/environment/history/community engagement/respect for the land = the future of tourism, the diversification of revenue streams, the protection of natural and cultural heritage - the list goes on.
