This is great adtech for SA's current circumstances because it makes it possible to efficiently serve ads to areas that are load-shedding, based on the load-shedding schedule which is updated in real-time and layered into the product. As Garth Rhoda explains, during loadshedding, they intentionally upweight the volume of inventory to now run creative for delivery via delivery partners, so the core call to action would shift from going into the store via delivery apps. Eyeballs lost with the reduction of TV [viewership] and radio [listenership] can now be gotten back by using digital, specifically mobile, in those loadshed times because we all know either they have their phone in their hands already, or it’s the first thing they grab. It could also be used to direct customers to stores in suburbs that have power, thereby helping them give options to customers. The benefit of upweighting mobile is two-fold: like Garth says, the attention it receives when traditional media is off, plus the engagement you can drive with their Tap2 ad units — so to drive footfall into stores with Tap2Map.
