Imagine ordering a Coke at a bar, but the waiter brings you a ginger ale instead. You'd probably be confused, maybe even frustrated, because what you wanted and what you got didn't match up. 🥤 This is similar to when a recruiter receives a resume that isn't targeted to the job. Your resume is your product, and potential employers are the buyers. If your resume doesn't align with what the employer is looking for, you're unlikely to land an interview. That's why generic resumes with a laundry list of duties don't cut it. Recruiters are seeking relevance above everything else. They want to see that you've tailored your resume to fit the specific job you're applying for. It's not about listing every skill you possess; it's about showcasing the ones that matter most to them. So how do you ensure your resume fits the job description like a glove? ➡️ Strategically list your most relevant and notable accomplishments first to hook their attention. ➡️ Weave keywords into your work experience, summary, and skills sections in a natural way to appease both the ATS and the recruiter. ➡️ Create a compelling cover letter detailing why your skills match the job and your values align with the company. Recruiters ignore generic, cut-and-paste cover letters but read well-crafted ones. ➡️ Emphasize transferable skills and accomplishments if you're changing industries or roles, demonstrating your capability to excel in the new position. ➡️ Quantify your accomplishments with specific numbers to provide evidence of your contributions (for example, increased revenue, process efficiency, reduced cost, or increased customer satisfaction by X%). Numbers really pop off the page. In today's competitive job market, a relevant and impactful resume is your ticket to standing out from the crowd and landing that interview. This cake came out alright!! Baked last night. It delivered (aka it's almost all gone!) I followed - step-by-step recipe - best practice (call with mum) - quality ingredients Most importantly, I thought of my target audience. I know what they like: - meringue (who doesn't) - a bit of fruit in it, for freshness - soft texture (my son has wobbly teeth 😂) It's like that with everything job-search related - CV writing, LinkedIn profile, interview preparation: - a process you rely on - trusted advice - best/relevant parts of your career story Inform yourself. Speak to decision-makers. Get advice from people with experience. I'M SUCH A LOSER! No notifications today. At all. Lost 3000 followers and still falling. BUT! Hold the front page. All is not lost. I've still had some great wins this week. Focusing on the positives is essential in business and life, and being grateful is an everyday practice you should have. 🍦 Started working with two incredible new premium CV clients. Can't wait to write the CVs. 🍦 Set up a really great service swap with a follower so we'll both benefit loads. 🍦 Had 3 amazing pole classes and SMASHED a new move I had as a target this year. 🍦 Helped 4 people in my LinkedIn group with free video reviews of their CV. 🍦 Sold some digital products including CV reviews, boost packs and my CV course. 🍦 Had a few brilliant in-depth diagnostic calls with clients that really got them on track with their CVs. 🍦A great therapy session. 🍦 Started working with a nutrition coach to fill in some blanks for me. 🍦 Both kids are getting awards at school tomorrow (remains to be seen what for but I'm excited!) 🍦 Managed to wash their hair tonight and believe me that's the biggest win of the lot!! It's incredible what you can come up with when you look at your week. It also reminds me I've achieved a lot even though my to do list is insane at the moment 😅 It's nearly Friday so tell me your wins! Or feel free to rant about your lost followers. They're going through and deleting dormant accounts again so it's understandable and helpful long term. It's kinda depressing too though. haha. The CV Jennifer presented was to die for. Like this lady was fit for the job according to her resume. But we were all in for a surprise on the day of the interview. My boss was looking for a professional baker like me, so she told me to join her in the recruiting process. On the interview day, she came looking well dressed and smart. Suddenly, I noticed while my boss asked her questions,  she could barely answer. My boss wanted practicals so Jennifer could prove she's actually who her resume says about her and most importantly, if she knows her craft well. We told her to bake something. Jennifer baked meatpies and it looked like somthing else. You would call it meatballs made with flour😅. My boss and I were surprised. Jennifer left offended, she thought our goal was to disgrace her which wasn’t true. Here are lessons you should grab from here 🔹️Work on your CV seriously and you can tell someone to help or assist you because that is your ticket. You have the chance of entering awesome organisations. 🔹️If your ticket brings you before the king, your competence and actions determine if you'll stay and be honored or thrown out. A well written CV is good but can you defend it? 🔹️Please, work on your craft till you become a master. Organisations are after what you can bring to the table and how you can help them grow. 🔹️Don't work on one and leave the other undone. Work on your CV and also your skills equally. You can attract them with your resume but can only keep them with your skills. I hope this spoke to someone today. Follow me for more amazing content. Know your worth. That's my encouragement for you this week. Recently, a client called me. He was apparently a referral ( I do commendable work) He required CV writing services. "What is the procedure and requirements?" Then I responded: > A pre-branding call to ensure alignment with his goals. > This and that additional information > Fees and his participation throughout the process. He then said, "I only need my CV typed. What do you mean?" I made it clear the importance of the process, but he couldn't have any of it. That was the moment of truth for me. I knew right away that the client did not fit my ICP. As a coach and branding expert, I help ambitious professionals: ↳ identify and capitalize on their strengths, skillsets and achievements. ↳ empower them with market best practices to stay competitive. ↳ weave their career narrative into compelling stories. I do not do some shoddy desktop work. And I was honest with him about it. I had to skip his assignment as it did not align with: > My delivery process > My level of expertise > My beliefs > Knowledge of facts Yes and I lost the money from the potential business. 👀 Today's #wednesdaywisdom - PLEASE do not send a resume that is 10 pages long! ❌ It takes a long time to download ⏳ ❌ It's an overload of information and lists every job since you were 16 years old 📜 ❌ Tells me you are bulk applying to jobs and "clicking" away 🖱 ❌ Recruiters spend more time then normal searching if you are a fit 🔎 ❌ How serious are you if the resume isn't customized to the job you are applying for? 👓 🎯 #todaystip Carve out time to revamp your resume and present your best chances when applying for jobs! ✔ Be creative on your contact section so your name stands out ⭐ ✔ Aim for 1 or 2 pages max 📜 ✔ List your experience from your current job and then go backwards 7-10 years. Have bullet points to show your skillset 🔎 ✔ Don't struggle over gaps- We see more then you think! I'd rather read then guess what you were doing 🔮 (ex. Stay at home mom 2010-2015) ✔ Feel free to list old jobs with no additional detail. It shows job history plus if recruiters are curious they will ask about it plus this helps with your resume length!
