Last weekend we joined the AEC Hackathon by opensource.construction and AEC Hackathon at ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences. These were fantastic three days meeting old and new friends, learning about the latest tech in AEC and - most importantly - becoming part of an incredibly talented and dedicated (global) community that will shape the future of this industry more than anyone can imagine today. Thanks for organizing Maximilian Vomhof, Konrad Graser, AEC Hackathon and team. Also: Yashar Moradi is taking over the opensource.construction country lead for Germany - ping him if you want to learn more, contribute or have ideas for activities in D! Alar Jost, Edyta Augustynowicz, Martino Tschudi, Christian Kongsgaard, Judith Wiesinger, PhD, Pablo Mayrgundter, Mark Baldwin, Giulia Bosshard, Tom Van Mele, Manuel Emmenegger and many more - great to meet or catch up!

Announcing LOCALHOST: a week of tech, media, and other explorations of how to create things we can own together. July 20th - 28th in Vancouver, community events around the #IETF120 meetings The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is pretty unknown to many. It's one of the major Standards Development Organizations involved in the architecture and governance of the Internet. In late July, the IETF's 120th global meeting is coming to Vancouver. We've taken this as an excuse to both participate in #IETF120 — the starting Hackathon is free to attend — as well as to explore what a local approach to the Internet means. Software, hardware, art, media, and tech of our own. Find out more in the announcement post https://lnkd.in/gRymmRXu The big event at the end of the week is Our Networks, and registration is open now. Check the calendar for other events throughout the week, or sign up to organize your own.

I won 4 hackathons in the past 60 days. If you ask me what the best way for developers to get started with web3, my answer would be: Join a hackathon, built a project. Here is what I get: 1. ETHGlobal LFGHO, Finalist (AdFuel), Solo https://lnkd.in/eGWyZ_fK 2. Artela Buildathon, Idea winner (LinkLearner), Solo https://lnkd.in/er3ef7ad 3. ETHDenver, @Artela_Network Bounty (GBA), with Lanyin Zhang (one author of ERC7527) and Frank (Full stack dev from CMU) https://lnkd.in/eT2JxCct 4. ETHOxford, @flock_io bounty (echo ai), with BuidlerDAO community members Ruixue Hu, Liangxi Liu, Frank, and Astro together. https://lnkd.in/e9F2a3HV I joint ETHDenver & ETHOxford with Frank together, and he won prize those 2 hackathons in 2 weeks. I regard hackathons as my hobby and it's very exciting to continuously build an idea together without taking a break. I'm steering more developers toward web3 by participating in hackathons together. I hope to connect with more web3 developers and those looking to transition into web3!

I recently attended the renowned WeAreDevelopers World Congress in Berlin, a notable tech event pooling 12K+ developers from all walks of life. This is what makes this event so unique: 1. One of the most memorable aspects of the WWC was the lineup of renowned keynote speakers. Experts from tech giants, startups, and academic institutions took the stage to share their experiences, wisdom, and visions for the future. Such as Tim Berners-Lee, Brenda Romero, Dan Abramov & Prashanth Chandrasekar 2. But WWC is not limited to the main stage talks. There were twelve other stages on which attendees could listen to expert panels, lightning talks, and technical talks. One of which was presented by me. My topic was focused on the recent innovations that came with #NextJS 3. There were also over 60 dedicated workshops for attendees who prefer hands-on coding challenges. One of which was offered by my fellow Twilions Nathaniel Okenwa and Sam Agnew, who covered how to add multi-factor authentication into applications. 4. In addition to the educational sessions, the WWC offered plenty of networking opportunities. Developers had the chance to connect with like-minded individuals, potential employers, and even find mentors or co-founders for their ventures. 5. Swag is king! We were so excited that developers who love our APIs stopped by and asked us for our infamous Twilio developer t-shirts and stylish scrunchies. To our surprise, we also learned that these scrunchies are not only popular with human developers Overall, the WeAreDevelopers World Congress has once again been a transformative event in the tech industry, offering a unique platform for developers to learn, connect, and be inspired. Are there any good hackathons in Calgary? The only one I can find is sold out, and fairly uninspiring. The topic is "create innovative software that captures Calgary as a Winter City destination". Someone should host a hackathon for something interesting. Surely there's better topics than "make the winter seem less bad". Some ideas: AI & decentralized energy. XR & Engineering. Real time analytics & community health. Maybe these are too niche?
