Earlier this year, Matthew McKaig and Steve Battista attended a reception for the humanitarian #telehealth platform Swinfen Telemedicine at the Royal Society of Medicine in London. They discussed MITRE's #cybersecurity efforts for the “virtual hospital” with Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, the nonprofit organization’s patron. Our work will help protect the exchange of medical information between less-resourced doctors in rural areas and conflict zones to volunteer clinicians. #TeamMITRE http://spklr.io/6043SzdH

Thanks to our CyberPeace Institute Advisory Board member Eric Meerkamper to share this -yet again- crippling news on #cyberattacks against #healthcare, this time a children's hospital victims of #ransomware attack As we analyzed and reported, #cyberattacks against #healthcare are attacks on people. Check our #CyberIncidentTracer #health: https://lnkd.in/eztayFib and the recently published World Health Organization reports we had the pleasure to contribute to: https://lnkd.in/dDRsFq3s But we need to understand, track, and measure the #harm they cause. Read more about the development of a #harmsmethodology to empower victims and drive #accountability: https://lnkd.in/eejGie7m As Eric mentions, if you are a #nonprofit active in the field, join our #CyberPeaceBuilders program. Who would #cyberattack a Children's Hospital? The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto was also recently the victim of a ransomware attack. Unfortunately it is all too common, as my colleagues at the CyberPeace Institute can attest. They even have documented cases where the cyber-attackers offered a small "discount" on the ransom upon hearing it was a Children's Hospital. Nice to see these cyber extortionists have a soul after all... While financial institutions are able to invest in cyber-protection, healthcare, NGO's and charities usually do not have the resources to do so, or are put in the impossible position of having to chose between cyber protection and the critical work they are doing. One wonderful program that is trying to help is the CyberPeace Builders initiative that allows those with #cybersecurity skills to make a difference through a unique matchmaking program allowing corporate volunteers to work with NGOs around the world. Shoutout to my esteemed colleague, Matt King, for discovering and surfacing this valuable grant opportunity which applies to Healthcare Security Leadership: In 2024, the FEMA Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) could be your key to unlocking advanced security solutions. The NSGP offers funding for physical security enhancements to nonprofits at high risk of terrorist attacks. But did you know it can also extend to innovative security software? Enter Omnigo's cutting-edge software solutions. With our 360 Analytics module, Omnigo is revolutionizing the approach to security. This software empowers your organization with tools for: 📊 Enhanced Situational Awareness: Get a comprehensive view of your security landscape. 🧠 Data-Driven Decision Making: Make informed choices on resource allocation and security protocols. 🕵️♂️ Incident Tracking and Analysis: Understand past incidents to prevent future threats. 🚨 Improved Response Coordination: Be prepared and respond swiftly to any security threat. 🛡️ Strategic Staffing and Resource Allocation: Optimize the deployment of your security assets. 📚 Advanced Training and Preparedness: Equip your team with the knowledge to tackle potential risks. 💡 Imagine integrating these capabilities into your security strategy, all potentially funded by the NSGP! 🤝 As a security director, you need to stay ahead of threats. Although Omnigo's Report Exec is not a direct counter-terrorism tool, it substantially improves an organization's capacity to identify and reduce terrorist attack risks by enhancing data analysis, situational awareness, and resource management. - 360 Analytics provides detailed analytics and benchmarking capabilities. This can help provide an understanding of your security landscape, identifying potential vulnerabilities and patterns that could indicate a risk of terrorist activities. - By analyzing data on incidents, visitor patterns, and other security-related events, the software enables organizations to make informed decisions about where to allocate resources, how to strengthen security protocols, and when to implement heightened security measures. - The ability to track and analyze past incidents, including minor security breaches or disturbances, can be crucial in understanding and mitigating the risk of terrorist attacks. Patterns or trends identified through this analysis can inform proactive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. - By understanding peak times and areas of higher risk, organizations can strategically position their security assets to best prevent and respond to potential terrorist threats. - Data and insights gained from such software can be used to develop more effective training programs for security staff, ensuring they are prepared to recognize and respond to potential terrorist activities. Catholic health system Ascension warns of disruptions following cyberattack. Why it matters: 1. This week's cyberattack on Ascension, one of America's largest Catholic health systems, underscores the growing cyber risk healthcare institutions face, disrupting clinical operations and potentially compromising sensitive patient data. 2. The attack on a nonprofit organization that delivers substantial care to impoverished communities can amplify disparities in care access, with consequences spreading far beyond network downtime. 3. As cyber threats in healthcare increase, industry calls for a comprehensive federal cyber strategy grow louder, underscoring the need for a concerted effort to safeguard health systems and their patients from potential breaches. 📣 Today we launch the CyberPeace Analytical Report! NGOs serving Humanity at risk: Cyber Threats affecting International Geneva NGOs are critical in providing healthcare, education, disaster relief, and human rights advocacy. The CyberPeace Analytical Report explores how these NGOs confront a complex cyber threat environment. This report builds on desktop research by our cyber analysts on the Geneva ecosystem, technical analyses including vulnerability scans and dark web monitoring, and with in-depth surveys with local NGOs. 🔑 Key findings: ➡️ 70% of NGOs don't think or aren't sure whether they have an adequate level of resilience to recover from a disruptive cyberattack. ➡️ 33% of NGOs lack IT support or technical expertise. ➡️ 87.5% of smaller NGOs (1-10 staff members) report not having IT support. ➡️ Over a quarter of NGOs fail to keep an inventory of physical assets. 🎤 We are honoured to host the first part of the Cyber Community & Capacity building event programme today, to share the new CyberPeace Analytical Report with the wider public! Happy to hear your thoughts & engage! Click on the link below to dive into the complete analysis: ➡️ geneva.cyberpeace.ngo 🔗

Children's hospital takes IT systems offline after 'cybersecurity matter' 1. Scumbags attacking children's hospitals. 2. The amount of legacy tech tolerated inside of hospitals is unsustainable. Not patched or out of date MSFT tech runs rampant. https://lnkd.in/gC6Y74ff CIO / CSO actions are critical and they can't follow the patterns of fin serv or other "rich" industries. -https://lnkd.in/g5cM3sRY cc LookDeep Health - https://lnkd.in/gzTgG3Xv
