The convergence of IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operational Technology) is reshaping industries, particularly in public transit and transportation. This integration is driven by advancements like IoT, AI, and connectivity. In this discussion, we witness the fusion of traditionally separate domains, as safe and secure IT services become paramount for the smooth operation of public transit and transportation systems. The interdependence ensures efficiency, real-time monitoring, and enhanced safety measures, showcasing the pivotal role technology plays in shaping the future of these critical sectors. Moreover, the integration of IT and OT facilitates predictive maintenance for transit infrastructure, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous service. Cybersecurity measures are crucial to safeguarding sensitive data and preventing potential disruptions, highlighting the necessity for a robust IT infrastructure within the operational landscape of public transit. This seamless convergence ultimately enhances the passenger experience, operational effectiveness, and the overall resilience of public transportation systems. Last year I was invited by Center for Digital Government to discuss the best practices at AC Transit and how we are leveraging cutting-edge technologies and building cross-functional teams. In the realm of public transit, the intertwining of IT and OT is evident in several specific ways. Automated fare collection systems leverage IT to enhance efficiency and accuracy, while OT manages the physical processes of fare validation and access control. Real-time tracking and scheduling, powered by IT, optimize transit routes, reduce wait times, and improve overall service reliability. Additionally, IoT-enabled sensors and cameras contribute to passenger safety and operational monitoring. This Guide captures very well the importance of aligning IT with business and improving operations by investing in Smart Transportation, which is a mobility backbone for any Smart City program. #govtech #actransit #apta #tonomous #fremont #oakland #misac #government

Non Terrestrial Network : Use Cases Non-terrestrial networks (NTN) are communication systems that function outside of the earth's surface (unlike cellular/terrestrial networks that function on earth's surface). Here are some specific use cases for Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) in various applications: 1. Mobility-Based Devices: Global Connectivity for Aircraft: NTNs can provide broadband connectivity for commercial and private aircraft, enabling passengers to access internet, and real-time flight information. Maritime Communication: NTNs can support maritime vessels with reliable communication links for navigation assistance, remote monitoring of ship systems, and maritime safety services. 2. Backhaul: NTNs can serve as backhaul links for terrestrial networks in remote or underserved areas, extending coverage to locations where deploying traditional infrastructure is challenging or economically unfeasible. 3. Trunking: NTNs can be used for trunking systems that support communications for public safety agencies and terrestrial networks, ensuring reliable and secure voice and data communication during emergencies. 4. Multiplay: NTNs can deliver multiplay services combining voice, video, data, and multimedia content over a single network infrastructure, providing communication experiences for users across different devices and platforms. 5. Industrial IoT: NTNs can enable industrial IoT applications by connecting sensors, actuators, and other devices deployed in remote or hazardous environments, allowing real-time monitoring, control, and optimization of industrial processes and assets. Ecosystem of NTN is getting standardized by 3GPP & focus is on integrating it with 5G NR & IoT to achieve above use cases in better and efficient way. **To learn more about NTN & 5G, refer to the course at - https://lnkd.in/euk8Z4Vp #telecom #technology #learning #platform #5g #itelcotech #ntn #satellitecommunications

I help HW developers for wireless IoT devices to quickly integrate/adapt an antenna, increase range, reduce power consumption and achieve radio certification at low cost.
📡 The innovative truck and trailer #tracking concept by #Crout is revolutionizing the industry with an efficient and cost-effective solution. #NBIoT / #LTEM / #5GNTN combined with #NeoMesh from #NeoCortec results in a unique and cost-effective solution for Track&Trace plus monitoring the condition of the goods in the trailer. Embedded in the trucks is a radio module with Sony #AltairSoC #ALT1350. It provides NB-IoT / LTE-M for reliable terrestrial communication and #5G #NTN #satellite-based NB-IoT communication. With the #iSIM and an integrated MCU, additional components are saved, reducing bill of materials (BOM) costs and significantly cutting down energy consumption. 🚚 The ALT1350 supports #GNSS (#GPS, #GLONASS), #WiFi-sniffer (indoor positioning), and SRD on the frequency bands 868/915/2400 MHz. SubGHz SRD in this concept is employed for the energy-efficient #NeoMesh by #NeoCortec. Each node acts as a router in this mesh network that self-organizes and self-heals, facilitating the autonomous location of trucks, trailers, and accompanying peripherals such as forklifts or sensors for sensitive cargo like food and medicine. With NeoMesh, the time required to plan the mesh network is 0 minutes. The nodes find their gateway in the truck independently. In the event of a fault, the network rebuilds itself. 🔌 Utilizing #SubGHz NeoMesh ensures effective penetration within the trailer, with NeoMesh sensors operating for up to 7 years on just 2 AA batteries. A standout feature is the #Crout True Global IoT SIM card (#rSIM, #eSIM, #iSIM) with Multi-IMSI and #SGP22 (option on #SGP32), offering the most cost-effective access to global cellular networks while enabling communication via 5G NTN (#satellite). 🌐 Another highlight is Crout's solution for indoor positioning via WiFi, expandable upon request to include #Bluetooth-based indoor positioning. This comprehensive solution ensures efficient vehicle and trailer tracking and provides a wide array of monitoring and control options for various sensors and peripheral devices in transportation. 📶 Completing this innovative concept is the reliable #0EuroAntenna, offering the world's most economical price with high performance. Queries about the concept, True Global IoT SIM card, and #0EuroAntenna are welcomed at harald.naumann (at) lte-modem. com 📧 📭📪

I really enjoyed my two days at #ConnectedBritain last week. It was very well attended with some great insights and perspectives being shared both in the conference sessions and around the exhibition floor. What I really liked was there was great representation from the end user community – utility companies, transport, public sector, healthcare etc. Without this, these events can run the risk of being a bit of a telecoms industry echo chamber. I’ve been reflecting, as you do, on the key takeaways and for me it was that I was genuinely surprised how many live, real-world use cases the end-user attendees referenced that are leveraging extensive IoT networks and AI technology to deliver actionable insights that were previously impossible to obtain. A case in point was the session on advanced connectivity in the water sector where @jeremyheath from SES described how they could previously only detect water leaks at night (when customer demand isn’t fluctuating) and a fix would take 9-12 days, but with IoT and AI they can now detect leaks around the clock and in many cases fix them before customers have noticed. This was just one of many examples, with the theme being these applications have moved beyond proof of concept to proof of value, with payback often measured in months not years. But as always it wasn’t all positive – many of these same organisations described that they are still struggling to get the connectivity they need, everywhere they need it. Who knew so many devices still rely on dial-up modems to share their data and that the coming PSTN switch off was going to cause such as headache for so many organisations! So my over-riding conclusion is that the use cases are very much out there that will monetise the UK’s 5G infrastructure and while that needs to keep rolling out, we are moving into a phase where private networks, neutral hosts, small cells, and rural coverage will play an increasingly critical role in unlocking the potential value achievable from Britain’s Connectivity infrastructure. Exciting times ahead!
