Digital Innovation Product Owner at NatWest Group | Global Co-Chair of NatWest Group’s LGBT+ Employee Rainbow Network
It was a pleasure to sit down with Amanda Whicher from Hays to talk about my own personal journey to self-acceptance and the hugely important work of employee networks. Thank you to Gary Sheldrake and Josh Caple for asking me to be involved. I took away some invaluable reflections from our conversation: 📍Role Models have been, and continue to be, a huge part of our journeys. Seeing others model the type of people we want to become whilst succeeding in their careers is hugely important when we talk about LGBT+ inclusion. 🪜Equity is the key building block for achieving true inclusion. We must recognise that everyone begins from a different starting line and put in appropriate support to overcome barriers and obstacles. The LGBT+ community is beautifully diverse and intersectional - it’s important to lean into that. 🏳️🌈 Creating psychological safety is an essential first step to allowing LGBT+ people to talk about their own experiences and challenges. Creating that safety empowers people to become leaders and reach their full potential.
🏳️🌈 It’s Pride month, so there’s no better time to share the first episode of our brand-new video series with you, Leading With Pride. 💡 The video series will see LGBTQ+ professionals from a huge variety of sectors interviewed by senior leaders within Hays, during which they’ll explore their own career journeys, challenges and highlights, any advice they’d give to others from the community, and much more. 🚀 We’re kickstarting with our first episode, featuring Callum Stridgeon, Digital Innovation Product Owner at NatWest Group, who is being interviewed by Amanda Whicher, UKI Technology Director at Hays. Callum shares his experience of being one of the chairs of the Natwest Rainbow Network – an employee support group for LGBTQ+ professionals, alongside his experience of coming out in the workplace and the advice he’d give employers regarding inclusion for LGBTQ+ employees, among many other topics. 👇 Watch the full episode below, or check out the following links: ▶️ https://lnkd.in/esaUBNN9 🎧 https://lnkd.in/eGyue42s #pridemonth #leadingwithpride #workingforyourtomorrow

Senior Director of Digital Products at McDonald’s | Driving Strategic Growth and System Integration | Expanding Business and Stakeholder Development through Digital Innovation
🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🏳🌈 As we celebrate, it’s also essential to reflect on the importance of equity and workplace inclusion in our efforts. Creating a truly inclusive environment means going beyond mere representation. It’s about ensuring that every individual, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation, feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their best. Equity in the workplace isn't just a policy or a set of guidelines; it’s a culture that acknowledges and embraces diversity. It involves actively dismantling barriers and biases that hinder the progress of LGBTQ+ employees and fostering a supportive atmosphere where everyone can thrive. When we invest in inclusive practices, we don’t just support our LGBTQ+ colleagues; we enhance the creativity, innovation, and overall performance of our entire team. This Pride Month, let’s recommit to building workplaces that champion equity, celebrate diversity, and drive meaningful change. #Pride #PrideMonth #Equity #Inclusion

I've been encouraged by the progress we've made over my career in supporting #DEI and everyone's ability to bring their full selves to work. For the #LGBTQ+ community, we worked early on to get equal domestic partner benefits before marriage equality was law. We evolved to define better policies to support trans needs and the needs of families looking to have/adopt children of their own, while fostering ongoing Business Resource Groups to support our community. But DEI is never "done". Now, according to EY's 2024 US #LGBTQ+ Workplace Barometer, it's clear the bar continues to be set high. #GenZ thinks employers aren't doing enough when it comes to inclusion efforts at a rate of 3 times other generations. Companies looking to increase retention, advance leadership opportunities and amplify a sense of belonging and psychological safety among the LGBTQ+ workforce need to make sure to have a comprehensive approach to inclusion. That also needs to extend into corporate social responsibility, supplier diversity, client/customer engagement, benefits, and more. Read our findings below for more detail. The report reminded me of our ongoing, unfinished work ahead.
Did you know that Gen Z identifies as LGBTQ+ at nearly 6x the rate of Gen X? Additionally, Gen Z is expected to make up 30% of the total US workforce by 2030. As the Gen Z LGBTQ+ population grows, companies must evolve to meet the needs of their changing workforce by moving inclusion initiatives to the top of their list of priorities. Sadly, many companies are missing the mark. According to our 2024 EY US LGBTQ+ Workplace Barometer, on average Gen Z LGBTQ+ employees give their employer’s inclusion efforts a C+. Everyone deserves to feel safe and included at work each day but all too often that is not the case. Companies must do more to cultivate an environment where people feel comfortable to be themselves. Without intentional efforts to support their people, companies leave millions of dollars on the table and risk losing top talent to their competitors. Read the full report for more on the cost of avoiding inclusion efforts and the steps companies can take to foster a safe and supportive work environment for all. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eXeeH8H7 #ProudtoBelong | #BetterWorkingWorld
