Our Digital Marketing Manager, Becca recently attended InnovateHer's workshop surrounding Cultural Awareness! Ran by Shelley from EDI connect, the session included some much-needed conversation and framework that we can all instil in our lives to discover how our own identity interacts with the world, while also improving our empathy for the identify of others. Topics and advice covered in the session include: ➡️Create a personal and social identity wheel to improve your understanding of the relationships and differences between your personal and social identities. ➡️ Your ‘relational resume’ is important – all your life lessons, relations and experiences can reflect your present identity. ➡️From workplaces to countries, culturally we all have different perceptions of non-verbal communications, such as eye contact, body language, employee trust and timings. It’s important that we keep this in mind and do the work beforehand, so we can create intentional, positive communications. Another brilliant session 💫

Communications Leader | Storyteller | Data Nerd | Employee Advocate | 📝 Focused on improving clarity and transparency across organizations
I attended the Institute for Public Relations Bridge Conference this week in DC. It’s hard to sum up the insights and expertise that were shared, but here are some of my key takeaways: 💡 Whitney Eichinger with Southwest Airlines shared how they map out the full employee experience journey and align internal survey responses to those moments before deciding on key actions to improve the employee journey. Michelle Russo with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce: “Good stories can’t be about systems or corporations, they have to be about people.” You can’t lecture someone into changing their opinions. You must: 1) Make people feel heard. 2) Remind people they’re powerful. 3) Show the personal benefit. A recurring point throughout the conference was that company culture is not something you can build and mandate for employees; employees need to be brought along on the journey and feel empowered in the process. Regarding corporate stances on political issues, Bradley Akubuiro with Bully Pulpit International advised “Figure out where you stand and stand there. Consistency is rewarded; hypocrisy is not.” Eleanor Hawkins with Axios is seeing companies rebrand ESG to “Impact “and more closely tie ESG and DEI initiatives to their larger business goals. Angela Dwyer with Fullintel shared research that shows PR and earned media can have a larger impact on sales and purchase intent than ads. These are only a few of the topics covered. If you can attend next year, I highly recommend it!

The role of the communications function has undergone significant changes in recent years, with a particular focus on protecting and promoting business reputation. We have also seen communications professionals evolve from business ‘supporters’ to ‘enablers’, becoming a respected voice in their business at board-level. Our roundtable discussion with communications leaders from global organisations explored these themes, and how the uplift in responsibility has led to notable growth of opportunities for the function. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Manager | OPEN Heritage Network Committee Lead | MEFA Mentor | Social Media Manager @ Black Recruiters Network | Co - Host of BRN Talks podcast
Morning ☕️ It’s easy to feel like you’re failing when you don’t see the quick wins. Recruitment was rapid, constantly moving and almost easy at times. DE&I is none of those things and when you have high standards and always want to achieve quickly, it can feel occasionally demotivating. So, I’d advise us to all look at our little folder we should have saved on our desktop with all our little wins. 👀 Join me as I look back on the last quarter at my tiny personal wins: ✅Featured on Ian Benjamin brilliant podcast again with the ever famous Seun Odeneye ✅Had the privilege of hosting the Mediabrands UK EMEA closer together podcast and spoke with Krunal Patel Lien Ngo Thuy & Saqib I. as they shared their South Asian Heritage with us ✅Spoke on the pannel at the Embedded Talent DE&I event. Hopefully we shared a few gems 💎 ✅From that speaking opportunity I met the lovely Sesen Semere and we caught up 💅🏾 ✅Travelled to our Leeds office and Leeds in general for the first time and spoke with the lovely Marina Abey Thomas on all things DE&I ✅Attended the IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Advertising) talent & diversity conference and the Advertising Association All in Summit ✅Created an ERG policy handbook…from scratch I might add 😉 ✅Judged a fabulous catwalk for our OPEN PRIDE party 🥂 ✅Our ERGs are flourishing ✅Finally, I saw Beyoncé 🎉🎉🎉 🚨A reminder to create that little folder with all your wins, whether big or small and take a glance if you’re ever feeling demotivated. You’re doing fine! #diversityandinclusion #ergs #talent #achievement #success
