I met with one of my jobseekers this week who expressed frustration with their search due to a lack of job opportunities for Junior Developers. After hearing them out, I asked them to share with me what their process is for finding jobs. I realized that their approach was very singular. So I decided to demo a quick best practice of using a variety of keywords and needless to say, that made all the difference. 🤯 Their frustration quickly turned into a burst of energy and optimism. This is what I suggested: 👩💻 👨💻 Desired role: Entry Level Software Engineer 🖥 What to type in the search bar (Use your specific tech stack as a guide): Python, MongoDB, API, Microservices ❌ Don't search only by "Entry-Level Software Engineer" ❌ 🔍 Filters: Entry level & Associate Posted within the last 24 hours Onsite, Remote, Hybrid Location (use a variety of locations) 🔦 Job Description: 3+ years experience or less Match at least 50% of the tech stack Match 75% of the soft skills ✅ Application: Apply on the company's careers page and not via the job board Hopefully, this process can help turn someone's search around.
