Yesterday I played in the CATIC Foundation’s 2nd annual golf classic. It was so hot but I played with an amazing group of ladies - Maggie Garden Suzanne Greene and Lisa Gordon- and we made it through the whole tournament. Playing in scrambles is one of my favorite networking activities. I would love to see more women in these tournaments. You don’t have to be good - you just need a set of clubs! It’s a great networking experience because not only do you spend 5 hours with your foursome but there is networking and dinner afterwards. And it’s best ball - that includes putting. According to my 7 year old, more women should play golf because women rule the world.

I recently played in the Tolland County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament with these gentleman - Noah King, King Team at Home Selling Team, Kevin Young of Edward Jones and Tim Ackert of Ackert Electric. We had an amazing day and Kevin Youn, the one to the right of me holding the pin, actually got a hole in one on our last hole! Unfortunately it wasn’t the hole with the free car BUT he did get a one year supply of golf balls. I also attended a court hearing from the golf course which is why I am wearing a suit jacket. I took a break from a few holes and did my work. This goes to show that you really can work anywhere.

POV: I closed my office on Mondays because I don't believe in a 40 hour work week. In January 2024, I stopped taking appointments on Mondays to see if this would work. Guess what? It did. I decided that if we can get the same amount of work done in 4 days, then we can be closed one day a week. Fridays are out of the question in the real estate industry, so I chose Monday instead. This was our second week being closed. And it was AMAZING. This past Monday, I took my girls to the beach. They are 7 and 9. And they are THRILLED that Mom is off with them on Mondays for their entire summer. It has only been two weeks, but I can tell you that it has made me more productive than I have ever been in my legal career.

Yesterday I attended one of the most fun events I have ever been to - the 2nd Annual Drag Brunch by the LGBTQ Real Estate Alliance. It was a fundraiser for The Health Collective. The Health Collective provides vital health and support services to the LGBTQ+ and HIV+ Communities in Connecticut. There were realtors, attorneys, paralegals, loan officers, people in marketing and finance - it wasn’t just limited to those in the real estate sector. It was amazing to see everyone come together to support this amazing non-profit. I can’t wait until next year! #realestate #realestateattorney

Yesterday I played in the Manchester Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. Guess who actually won Longest Drive today? ME!!!! Fun fact: I’ve been playing since I was I elementary school but never really took it seriously. Golf is in my blood. In 1952, my grandfather Clifford Liljedahl and his friends at the Greater Hartford Jaycees started the Insurance Open which you may know now as the Travelers Championship. Cliff was chairman of the tournament the first year when my dad was not even 2 years old. This is when he earned his Red Coat. 15 years later they renamed it the GHO, as most of you may know it by. Cliff gave his time and effort to this tournament for many years. And when he died we buried him in his Red Coat. Every past chairman of the tournament that came to his services wore their Red Coat - there was a long line of them. I have never seen anything like it. But even moreso than Cliff, my dad is amazing at golf. And I’m lucky when I get to play with him. I learned it all from him!

Golf season has officially kicked off! Yester was an amazing afternoon at Lyman’s Apple 9 with CREW CT! We had lessons, played 9 and then networked. The weather turned out to be great! I’m looking forward to using my new skills in some scrambles next month. Golf is one of my favorite networking activities. Maggie Garden ✪ Erin Cabelus

2 of my favorite things to do are networking and giving back to the community. This week I attended the Tri-County Alliance Board of Realtors Affiliate Trade Show for some networking (I raffled off a super cool margarita bag with all the fixings) and I went to Ashford School to talk to 7th and 8th graders about being a lawyer.
