A must read! The folks at Google seem to be responding to recent commentary about SERP quality and AI use. On “Scaled Content Abuse”: “Scaled content abuse is when many pages are generated for the primary purpose of manipulating Search rankings and not helping users. This abusive practice is typically focused on creating large amounts of unoriginal content that provides little to no value to users, no matter how it's created. This new policy builds on our previous spam policy about automatically-generated content, ensuring that we can take action on scaled content abuse as needed, no matter whether content is produced through automation, human efforts, or some combination of human and automated processes.”
While we're always working on improving the quality of Google Search results, we just announced some changes which feel a bit bigger: the March 2024 core update & new spam policies. When we make bigger updates to Google's Search systems, we tend to call them "core updates". There's a bunch involved with this particular update (though not 10 million changes, which is why we stuck with 'core' instead of 'crore'). It will likely take a month to be completely visible. If you're looking at the search results for something, I hope you find that they're better & more helpful in the end (and, I know, if you're working on a website of your own, then 'better' will be hard to decouple from how your website's visibility in search changes :-)). We have some of the details in our blog post at https://lnkd.in/ehXZpBJ7 - check it out if you're curious. The new policies are also linked from there. One of them won't go into effect until May, so if you're affected by that, then you have a bit of time to get things into a better shape. Anyway, I'm looking forward to a smooth roll-out (the team here is amazing!) and curious about your feedback. #google #coreupdate #googlebot #ranking #seo #seoisnotdead #searchcentral

Today, we visited the Sarstun community with Mirza Shol. We saw the forest we’re helping to preserve, and also the economic and health impacts the WebFX team is making via contributions to FUNDAECO Guatemala. Marta Tiul introduced us to smart and resilient women who are pillars of their community. They rise early in the morning to begin the process of making pan de banano, pan de coco and other various breads. By mid-day, they wrap up baking to deliver orders and sell their bread. Through this project, women establish financial independence and reliance on selling wood for income is reduced. La Clinica De La Mujer is a clinic devoted to the care of women in the community. Access to healthcare was limited due to distance, machista culture, and other factors. With funding, they are able to provide medicine, exams, and other services for women, improving community health.
