Interesting discussion on how telcos could monetize APIs. This is a business model that many have been speaking about for some time, but few have been able to execute on effectively. What telcos need to do is not think like CSPs, but build agile businesses that understand use cases relevant to their markets, build them with agility and then sell sell sell these. In other words, the complete opposite to "build it and they will come" as a strategy. I find the payments hardware market very interesting right now. I believe the concept of "Certification" of hardware is quickly become less relevant to small technology companies. The hurdles are simply too high. I think we will see companies like Ingenico creating platforms that allow smaller software players to leverage hardware that is already certified and this will work all the way up market to larger point of sale systems.
