We asked some of our brilliant minds at Medicon Village how they spend their summer holidays and about their professional focus for the second half of 2024. This is how Pernilla Agardh at Agardh Recruitment & Consulting answered: "I start my summer holiday by going to our favourite place in southern France, Collioure. Here, we enjoy swimming, hiking, and good food and drink. After that, I plan to just enjoy having the whole family gathered at home, listening to summer radio shows, reading books, and staying active with golf and running. My professional focus after the summer will be to continue ongoing projects with current clients and to start a new exciting collaboration (hopefully, there will be more). My plan is also to welcome a new colleague in the autumn." #brilliantminds #lifescience #sciencepark

People ask WEM founder Mark Hannaford, 'Why have you dedicated almost three decades of your working life to developing Extreme Medicine?'... I didn't start off with a background in medicine. Rather, it started with a childhood ambition to lead expeditions to the world's far-flung corners. An aspiration I realised at age 20 was working as a mountain guide in the Anti Atlas Mountains of Morocco and on a 3-month Raleigh International expedition rowing down the coast of Patagonia. However, I quickly realised that I had a duty of care as a leader and being competent medically for the type of day-to-day injuries that occurred was important. But, as we became more and more successful, reaching the point where we established our own expedition company 'Across the Divide Expeditions' I decided that we needed to take along professional medical professionals and pay them so that there was no confusion about their role; they where there to work as part of the expedition team. Initially, we gathered friends who were medics around us and then friends-of-friends. We quickly realised that to work in an expedition environment, we needed to train our medics, provide a standardised kit, and provide insurance for them. The first course outline was put together almost 30 years ago, and it was at our core team insistance that we eventually made our course publically available as the first ever Expedition & Wilderness Medicine course, a phrase we coined to cater for the influx on not only UK-based medics but also those travelling from North America. We decided not to trademark the phrase but to use it to grow and develop a community. It dawned on me, though, that by sharing experiences, research, and opportunities across disciplines such as humanitarian, disaster, sports, tactical, and space medicine, to name but a few, there was a much bigger opportunity to mobilise medicine outside of hospitals, to improve medicine in remote places and low-resource environments, and Extreme Medicine was born. What does the future hold? My mission extends beyond just training; it's about creating a global community of medical professionals equipped with the knowledge and skills to make a difference wherever they are needed. By pushing the boundaries of what is possible in medical care, we are advancing the field of medicine and ensuring that we are prepared for the future, whatever it may hold. #ExtremeMedicine #HealthcareInnovation #MedicalExploration #GlobalHealth #MedicalTraining #Adventure #ExpeditionMedicine #RemoteMedicine #SpaceMedicine #DisasterMedicine #WildernessMedicine #medicine #extreme University of Exeter Faculty of Health and Life Sciences University of Exeter Northeastern University Northeastern University, Bouvé College of Health Sciences NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Mark Hannaford (DSc) FEWM

🌱 Embracing Change and Growth: My Journey in the Equine World 🐴 Hello LinkedIn community, As I navigate through a transitional phase in my career, I've discovered a profound sense of renewal and purpose in an unexpected place—the world of equines. In my pursuit of new opportunities in reproductive and embryology fields, I've immersed myself in my favorite hobby: the equine world. Spending time with these magnificent creatures isn't just a pastime; it's a transformative experience. Here's how: 1. Building Skills: Working with horses demands patience, empathy, and communication—traits crucial in any professional setting, including embryology. 2. Renewing Energy: The outdoors and the bond with horses have re-energized me, fostering a positive mindset during my job search. 3. Networking in Unexpected Ways: I've met diverse individuals—equine enthusiasts, veterinarians, and fellow job seekers—expanding my network organically. Hey guys, Chris and Cam here, co-founders of Unyoked, writing to you today to announce something we're incredibly proud, humbled and just a bit stoked about... The inaugural Unyoked x AllTrails Global Nature Study! The first-of-its-kind (as far as we know) global crowdsourced scientific study of the benefits of time in nature is officially launching today and putting out an open call for participants 🌳👨🔬 Check out how to take part via the link below or keep reading for a bit of background. https://lnkd.in/gdbsNV4P This epic partnership will go beyond merely talking about the benefits of nature. Instead it will seek to scientifically prove them. The aim? To help more of us connect with just how powerful nature-time can be. And in doing so, help drive positive behavioural change that leads us to be healthier, happier humans - with an increased appreciation for our environment and desire to take the steps needed to protect it for future generations. (Dream big right?) Since we started this whole thing all those years ago, our mission has been to get more people to nature more often. We noticed the gap between how good everyone feels around nature and our understanding of why that's the case, and what we should do about it. That's why we're so stoked about this. Partnering with AllTrails, the world's largest outdoor platform is cool, very cool. And not only because we respect everything they're about - but because, together we have a chance to really make an impact with the outcomes of this study. That means a lot to us. So, if you're keen to find out more, or throw your hat in the ring and be part of driving (the right kind of) change, head on over to the website below and apply to participate. Cheers guys! As always, we're grateful for your time, and for your ongoing support of everything Unyoked. Thanks for being part of what we're creating here. Good vibes, Cam & Chris Co-founders Unyoked

During business week I attended a couple of events but the event I am going to talk about today is the Zoo Keynote Speaker event. During this event I felt like I learned a lot about the zoo and more so on how it operated. I have never thought in depth about the zoo or what it actually takes to run a zoo, but I learned that it is very expensive and takes a lot of work. I don't know why I was so surprised when he was explaining how the zoo worked, but it makes sense. Along with how the zoo running, he also mentioned how they get animals too the zoo. Once again never had out any thought into it before, but of course via airplane is what Thane said. But it is more than that. For example, when he talked about transporting the elephants he mentioned how they have mechanical engineers that build the cages they need to be in and they have vets and keepers alongside. Also, he mentioned how Cincinnati is one of the top zoo's in the world, and how they have earned that title. For example, when they brought the rhino in years ago that went to 6 different zoo's but Cincinnati was the only zoo that figured out how to feed them and keep them alive. As well as how he mentioned some of the animals are just brought in for breeding or rehabilitation programs, but then after a period of time are returned back out into the wild, back to their homes and then they bring in a couple more different animals. They kind of do a rotation with certain species that they have. Lastly, I would say my favorite part of the Keynote Speaker was hearing about Fiona. I have heard when she was born that their was a new baby hippo at the zoo, but I did not know what a triumph she overcame and how popular she really was, and how much she benefited the zoo. This made me think back to the beginning of my economics class. #EconwithDrA. In the beginning of the semester he brought up how everything is connected. For example, where you grew up, where you live, things you've been involved in and how it has all brought you to the place you are now. Which with Fiona, is a perfect example of how that works. Thane mentioned BeBe, Fiona's mom, was brought to the zoo and put her on birth control and they were trying to prevent her from getting pregnant because she wasn't suppose to, but then she did, with Fiona. Then Fiona was premature and had to overcome so many battles, but then became a town favorite and brought in revenue for the zoo on top of being adorable. But overall, my point is that BeBe was brought in at the time she was, still was on birth control, and then got pregnant and overall benefited the zoo.

NEOMED's reach and impact spans around the globe, and actually, I've competed with the Nyano Nani team in the NEOVations Bench to Bedside competition, when I was working on the CRSE (Clinical Research Search Engine) Team! To learn more about NEOMED's work with Sanjay and the Nyano Nani project, skip to 4:57 in the Beast Philanthropy video linked below!
NEOMED is in MrBeast's recent YouTube video! https://lnkd.in/diFYhdzK The video shows people working to build a hospital in a remote part of Nepal, with no electricity. It all started when local, Sanjay, who was working in the upper Himalayans where he found a baby in a wooden box and he came up with the idea to build a baby warmer, named Nyano Nani. Nyano Nani was a collaboration between NEOMED and the Nepal Innovation Center with medical leads Nik Brzezinski (M4), Scott Everett (M4) and Zoya Khan (M2) and won The People's Choice Award at NEOMED NEOvations Bench to Bedside Competition in 2022. Kicker – a very serious matter at METRONOMIA It all started quite harmlessly: around 10 years ago, Metronomia Clinical Research GmbH purchased a table football for the roof terrace. At the time, nobody could have imagined the impact this device would have. Kicker tournaments are now one of the most important team events at METRONOMIA (some colleagues even claim they are the most important onboarding events for new employees), usually combined with extensive use of the barbecue and accompanied by various drinks. One of these events took place quite recently: On March 27, METRONOMIA’s self-proclaimed table soccer presidents organised the first ever Easter tournament. This time it was a huge competition consisting of 7 teams. At first there was group stage where all teams battled each other. The best 4 teams went over to the knockout phase. Before semi-finals everybody needed a break. Due to rain and wind, the table football was moved indoors without further ado, but that didn't stop some weather-tested colleagues from northern Germany from firing up the barbecue outdoors. After a delicious meal the hot phase of the tournament began. In a nerve-wracking final, the two local heroes Jasmin Wulf and Simone were ultimately beaten by their former coaches Jens Pfeil and Dennis. Revenge is being planned.... Although "good kicker skills" are not part of our job description, we are always happy to welcome new colleagues who enrich our kicker tournaments. A good introduction is guaranteed :-) Check out the current job advertisements on our career page: https://lnkd.in/dapVs9C #Hiring #GreatPlaceToWork #Metronomia #DataScience #CRO #clinicalresearch #clinicaltrials
