Exciting news from the surgical realm! Recently, an incredible laparoscopic denture extraction surgery was performed by Dr. Gajendra Bhatti, MS, MCh Surgical Gastroenterology and HPB Surgery (JIPMER, Pondicherry). The patient, aged 50, accidentally swallowed an artificial denture, and despite two unsuccessful attempts via UGIE, it remained lodged at the Gastroesophageal junction. Through meticulous laparoscopic techniques, Dr. Bhatti successfully removed the impacted denture, employing a gastrostomy near the GEJ with V-lock sutures 3-0, and extracting the denture in a specimen bag. This case underscores the importance of surgical expertise and innovation in challenging scenarios. Justin Schweitzer, OD, FAAO goes over the results of Corneal Tissue Addition Keratoplasty (CTAK) for keratoconus (KC) and ectasia after laser in situ keratomileusis study published in The Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery in 2023. The study looked at 21 eyes of 18 patients who underwent CTAK and found that CTAK is a promising procedure to improve visual acuity and topography in patients with KC and ectasia.
