While this growth, largely due to Coinbase's influence, is impressive, it also sparks a crucial debate: Does Base genuinely support decentralization or is it Coinbase's way of stamping its authority on another crypto corner? Here's what you should know: - What is Base? It's a tech solution connecting Ethereum with other apps. It's versatile, letting users trade, make payments, or even launch decentralized groups. - Coinbase's Role: A big name in crypto, Coinbase's trust and user base contributed to Base's swift popularity. A whopping 30% of Base users on its second day were completely new to blockchain! However, here’s the catch: Coinbase's strong influence on a decentralized platform can be tricky. - Centralized Control: Decentralization means no single entity holds too much power. But with Base’s success tied to Coinbase, is the line blurring? - Gateway or Guard? Base could be an open door to new tech. The Cash App of crypto? Andreessen Horowitz backed startup Eco has unveiled a global peer-to-peer payments platform, now available to users on Optimism and Base. "Beam" is designed to operate similarly to Venmo or Cash App, but for crypto transactions. The product allows users to to access the instrisic advantages of cryptocurrency, such as censorship resistance, self custody and privacy, integrated with the user-friendly interface of a web2 payment system.
