It was around 330pm. And I was starving. 😒 The restaurant at the hotel was my best bet to satiate my hunger. Me: What can I get fast? Some veg curry and some rotis?  Waiter Padam: That should be fine. I would suggest Tawa rotis and not Tandoori rotis. They take time. Me (scanning the menu): Give me Bhindi Do Pyaaza and two tawa rotis. Padam (Hesitates for a moment) Sir, No one is joining you, right? Me: (Slightly confused) No, I am alone Padam: Then sir, I would get you half the veg curry dish. That should be enough for you. Me: Yes, that would be good. In less than 90 seconds and within 30 minutes of checking in, Padam had won my trust. He didn’t just serve food; he served understanding. By suggesting the right quantity, he put himself in my shoes. And here’s the remarkable part: I wouldn’t have questioned him if he hadn’t offered the half dish. He prioritized my satisfaction over short-term profit, and that spoke volumes. In the hustle and bustle of life, it’s often these small acts that lay the foundation for trust. So, let’s remember Padam’s lesson: Empathy and small acts matter. They’re the secret ingredients that turn a transaction into a relationship. Whether you’re a waiter, a colleague, or a friend, a marketer, consider stepping into someone else’s shoes. Moti Mahal claims that their restaurant founder, Kundan Lal Gujral, created the curry in the 1930s before moving from Peshawar to Delhi. Meanwhile, Daryaganj, which only opened in 2019, insists that a late family member, Kundan Lal Jaggi, actually partnered with Gujral to open the Delhi restaurant in 1947 and that the dish was only invented then and there.
