Matthew Katz’s Post

Hey you? Have you reached out to that person who sat near you who was laid off recently? No. And now it's just awkward if I do now and what do I even say - It's best to just ignore it and hope they land ok right? And I'm sure they are using the time to take a nice trip in this weather they always liked Surfing. And if I did reach out to them then folks might know I've been talking to them and that association won't be good for my career and who knows if that puts me on the list for the next round of folks getting let go. (Curtain goes black - you get let go 3 weeks later) Don't you wish you had reached out to them? Now you are wondering why coworkers whom you spent more time with during the week than your family have gone radio silent on you. Reach out to those folks. Some ideas for you to communicate: 1. Hey - Sorry that this happened. It sucks. Hope you have some good leads and if I can help with my network or a coffee meetup let me know. 2. Hey - I don't have the right words but I miss you in the office and hope that you have some good activity. 3. Hey - just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you. Remember if you want people to be there for you and support you. You need to support and be there for you. This is part of cultivating your network. This post took 90 seconds. In that time you could write 3 folks in your network - make one of them someone on the job hunt. Help make the awkward go away. It's very easy. #Spreadtothenetwork #helpthenetwork #sharetothenetwork #beAHuman #here2help
