So simple and yet so powerful. We think we are being clear about our request, here is an example to show how easy it is to be misunderstood.
Clear communication is a practice, how do you know the person you are communicating with understands what you are saying. Do you assume that your are clear? Do you check in?

What a powerful message from Simon Sinek. “Do you have 8 minutes?”
A code phrase holds immense value in our fast-paced lives, particularly for those of us navigating high-stress environments.
It's vital to always keep in mind, that amidst the chaos, there exists a moment to step back, regroup, or extend a helping hand to those in need.
Sometimes, the person most deserving of a break could very well be you.
The impact of a few moments of tranquility or a kind gesture cannot be overstated.
In today's world, establishing a support network and a code phrase like this for individuals within your safe zone is more crucial than ever.

#DoYouHave8Minutes: When a powerful idea meets a simple solution. Such a great example of the simplicity of giving one's time to a friend, colleague or family member who may be struggling. We are now borrowing this coded phrase as an internal red flag of being overloaded, feeling overwhelmed, and needing help: "Do you have 8 minutes?"

Important to consider not only how we help others but also how we can ask for help
This has been an important part of my teaching after observing my grandmother as a child talk with a neighbour at the door for a while (beyond my hearing) then as that conversation came to an end closed the door and was extremely frustrated with herself "why is it so hard to ask or accept help? Why do I always keep quiet or say no?" - as she walked through the room to be somewhere else to calm down.
I can still clearly visualise it.
I never forgot - and I incorporated into my teaching - the importance of asking and accepting help as a normal human thing to do. Not the same as expecting others to do stuff for you that you can do yourself - but knowing when to ask for help.
My husband teaches doctors and I told him I never want to be treated by a doctor who does not know how to ask for help from colleagues (and pointed out the individual tests where copying is banned do not encourage doctors to practice the skill of asking others when they don't know)
I think we are taught to feel shame when we can't manage on our own. This is such a disservice to our humanity - our need to be helped and also our need to help.
Asking for 8 minutes is a great cue to start overcoming this and making it easier to help and be helped
