How (un)profitable are German soccer clubs?⚽️🇩🇪 The DFL has released the income statements of all 36 Bundesliga teams for the 22/23 season. Below are the numbers for the teams that played in the 1st division. Key facts: - 16 profitable - 16 lost money - 2 teams broke even (Leverkusen and Wolfsburg) Highest revenues: - Bayern: 812 mio € - Dortmund: 498 mio € - Leipzig: 396 mio € The average profit margin for Bayern is about 4%, comparable to the aerospace and defense industry (5%). The average profit margin across all public markets is 8.5%. Have you ever thought about the fact that profit is not the top goal in the pyramid of objectives of a football club and that achieving a profit or loss does not have the same significance as it does for a company in the aerospace or defence industry?

Very interesting! By the way: The reason Leverkusen and Wolfsburg exactly broke even is because Bayer and VW even out their losses or take their profits

I'll definitely listen to it, I'm very curious to find out more. For Union and Freiburg it's probably participation in the international competitions, but I'll find out in the podcast ;-)
