A stage has two rules: 1. Anything can happen and 2. Something must happen.     Agree, configuration management and master management... it is really coolest place for automation, for example in these scenarios: - New production season of year: new stock plans (but based on previous achieved results just with revised quantity of planned models); - New projects per season: new modernizations and reconstructions to be added to improve quality of product ( but new projects should be coupled with achieved projects in achieved general project plan from past); - New model of product: new components and parts (but most of them re-used from past model); - New list of maintenance: new area has been added (but biggest part of list is based on previous areas of maintenance, so we need just add new area); - new models of products require representation in BODL to be published on websites with specification and 3D photos: new models are coming (but we have a lot of old models in demand without changes); - and more and more cases that i can skip for a while... Where we go with automation: - preparation period: do annual (or seasonable) replication of all data to draft data be able merge only newest data from planning data. - start period: do annual (or seasonable) activation of new data from draft data once draft data were merged with planned data. What operators and managers do finally: - configuration of new components, parts, areas to planning data; - verification of new annual or seasonable that those are in planning data. - review of planning data and merge those to draft data with full understanding what has been added or modified. Just some thoughts after looking at the process of management configuration...
