I had the privilege of delivering the opening talk at Battery’s and FirstMark Capital’s CloudNY event this June to an audience of around 150 CEOs, almost all founders, reflecting on my own entrepreneurial journey as the co-founder and former CEO of Guidewire. I chose to speak from the heart about an emotional topic for every founder: coping with a startup’s position of weakness and embarking on a journey with a high chance of failure. Rather than seeing the overcoming of this daunting situation as purely a matter of inner resolve, I argue that founders must maximize their intrinsic endowment of “insurgent strengths.” Here is a link to the Substack: https://lnkd.in/gWmu2Gn6 And here is a link to the video on YouTube:https://lnkd.in/gHBwixSF
Marcus, you are a true inspiration!!! All my best!!!
Marcus Ryu this was one of the best presentations I’ve seen. Thank you for making a version of this public
this was the best session of the event for me. thanks Marcus Ryu for sharing this.
I wish I could have been there to see it!
I always enjoyed your ability to frame our work as a near impossible mission worth doing and winning, Marcus Ryu. Right down to actual Tunneling Through Granite awards, (seen here testing whether it was real granite 😀). Great speech!
Marcus Ryu Loved watching the presentation. Very heartfelt! I could connnect each of your points with our insurgent mission!
Phenomenal, inspiring with a touch of tongue-in-cheek humor... classic Marcus Ryu!
Great talk Marcus Ryu. Much can be translated and applied even outside of the pure startup world. I remember the days at CNA fondly - tackling the impossible together! John Mullen James Perschke Tim Uligian
