It is very hard to put my thoughts into words. Like all other Israelis, I am unfortunately used to the ongoing conflict in our region and its consequences, but a week ago everything changed.
Israel was attacked by a terror organization whose sole purpose is to destroy us. Brutal, inhuman, and barbaric attack that led to +1,300 civilians murdered and 150 taken hostage. Women, children, elderly people - our enemy did not make any distinction.
Israel is a small (yet powerful) country, and everyone knows someone that was either murdered, kidnapped or injured. Endless stories and videos that are showing the horror are everywhere, and have become part of our national narrative, our national grief.
The terrorist attack broke our hearts, but also made us come together. The beautiful Israeli spirit that makes us such a great nation is spreading and instilling hope and determination. Everyone is united and willing to help each other. Strangers became friends, and the whole country is showing unbelievable resilience and courage. Everyone is doing whatever they can, joining the military forces, volunteering, donating funds and equipment, collecting food, donating blood and taking part in our national effort.
No matter what your political view is, and even your perspective on the Israeli Palestinian conflict, every human-loving liberal person should condemn this attack from the bottom of their hearts. 7.10 will be forever the day we woke up and said, never again.
Many of you from my professional and academic network from all around the world have reached out, kindly offering help and support. At this time I have only one request - be loud and clear and support the good, the human and the hope, stand with Israel.
“It's always darkest before the dawn”, an old phrase said, Israel will prevail, goodness will win.
